I just think Bill wouldn’t be as good as he was if he played when athletes committed to the sport 24/7 and were playing it all over the world.

It’s subjective ( to a point ) how you judge players from other eras.
And if you transport the guys today to those old eras, they'd put up crazier numbers than the olds did.
Until they get clotheslined by Charles Oakley or Rick Mahon.

Both Tim Duncan and Shaq were taller and bigger than both those dudes.
Oakley ain't stopping peak Lakers Shaq.
Hell LeBron is bigger than Charles Oakley.

If you're going to put Ewing on your GOAT list, might as well do this

Ok, I admit, it was a bad move putting Ewing on my list.

At their current ages, Oakley. In their primes, LeBron.

It is easy to see the age factor in regards to our opinions of who truly great players are.

If you weren't following the NBA in the mid 80s to mid 90s, you have no real idea of just how physical the game was then.

Jordan, Bird, etc. took an absolute ass whipping every single time that the had the balls to take the ball to the hoop.
Shooters were man handled at the 3 point line like they stole something.
Rebounding was an absolute street fight.

IMO, if LeBron is this much of a whiney pussy in the current NBA, he would have been crushed in the old NBA. His physical size is not the issue...his fortitude is.

And, I am not just saying that about LeBron. Durant, Edwards, etc would not be the same players that they are today in that era. Could they get the stats? Maybe, if they had the balls.

No question that the players today are better conditioned, more skilled and polished.

I agree the game is less physical—in fact I hated it years ago when they shifted away from hand checking and bodying.

That said LeBron is a freak of nature—body of a hefty power forward who would boss people around in the 80s and 90s — with the agility of Pippen and the vision of Stockton.

And while he might try to embellish something to get a call, he actually is incredibly tough, he’s taken huge hits that would wipe out smaller guys and played through it. Look how many games he’s played.

He’d be just fine in the 90s. He’d dominate em.

Spurs at the mid/end of their run unfortunately.

Ginobli was like Shakespeare.
Harden was like Arthur Miller.

"trend"? Ok, maybe Manny and Jimmy but who is known as the originator and became the "master of deception"? https://vault.si.com/vault/1963/12/09/s ... -deception

Shawn Kemp says DRod beat them. Not MJ. Maybe he feels DEFENSE wins championships?
Props to Kemp because frankly, I feel he very well may have been the best player in the series.
In order, I'll go Kemp, Jordan, Rodman, Payton, Schrempf, Pippen, Kukoc
