Absolutely.

4.2 turnovers per 40.

8.7 fouls per 40.

to be fair though, dude was a foul magnet due to size alone…he had so many bs calls against him

Yep.
Don't be huge. And don't be a freshman.
Definitely don't be both.

maybe I didn't remember Dok's D...I mean how often does a true freshman big play cuz of his defense.

5 point on 62.9% fg 4.4 boards and 1.6 blocks in 12.9 minutes dang!

2.6 fouls is kind of a lot tho.

and this is something that's not in stats - I dunno if he was a good defender besides the post/rim. I don't remember him moving his feet well until senior year, when that development was a pleasant surprise, and he looked like he might actually be an NBA prospect after all.

These are all points to prove the argument that Hunter wasn't the worst defensive center/5 that Self has had. Self wanted Udoka in there, as a freshman, with these flaws, preferably over Landen. Landen was worse.

Dok was a game-changer, literally. opposing guards just wouldn’t attack as much with him guarding the paint
This 100%

Landen developed into a smart reliable player, but was also one of the least talented centers self has ever had. Dok was a specimen

Defense earns young players minutes. Not offense. At least not for Bill Self.

I dunno if it was Landen was worse, so much as Dok was elite, even as a true freshy.

8 points 63%fg 8.3 rebs and a block in 25 mpg could be worse for a backup center...and he felt like a backup for most of his career. But I dunno if the plan going into the season was to start freshman Dok, who knows.

as a junior he started cuz Diallo wasn't up to speed...and also maybe cuz even Self finally came around to the idea that Jamari Taylor wasn't a starting-caliber center.

As a sophomore he started cuz Cliff got F'd by the NCAA

As a (RS) freshman he played but hardly at all cuz we had Joel and Tarik.

But, we tended to play better with him as the anchor than we did with many of those other big man options during that era.

And, while he wasn't exactly elite, I also just don't remember him being like a huge liability either.

yea I guess.

But at the same time, I also don't remember the fanbase crying OMG LANDEN'S BAD D IS KILLING US as frequently as fans do with Hunter, either. But maybe I'm just not remembering. That was several years ago. And it's early, and I'm still like 2.5 cups of coffee plus .5 donuts away from being completely awake yet.

and, tho not being "elite" at really anything, I at least remember Landen playing more above the rim than Hunter too, despite being several inches shorter.

He might have even generally played tougher too, especially if we factor in size difference.

I also (real pdub bait here now) never remember Landen hanging on the bench with 6 figures worth of bling around his neck.

Hunter isn't the worst paint protector. Hes really good there. But he was the worst rim protector. Slowwwww at rotating over

that maybe be less about not remembering Landen Lucas, and more an indictment of Hunter.

for 7'2" the dood plays way too far below the rim, at least gimme that?

Absolutely he does.

But Landen's forte was just standing straight up with his arms vertical.

Elmarko I think.

I was real big on Elmarko (RIP his knee)

I think Jamari will be fun to watch develop.

The newcomers all look promising!

I'm tempted to say I'm impressed with KJ's explosive dunks...now please avoid yet another response like, "NO YOU JUST LIKE DUNKS CUZ YOU THINK THAT'S ALL THERE IS TO BASKETBALL CUZ YOU DON'T WATCH THE GAMES AND YOU'RE DUMB"

but, yea, besides that it does feel kinda meh...sorry to be a downer, but I'm afraid the returning main core was just getting too blown out to feel that bullish about, at least until they prove us otherwise.

We got a slow soft below-the-rim big who puts up AA numbers even tho he's just never won much, a non-shooting non-rebounding tweener forward, and the Landen Lucas of point guards.
