Was Weis the "cleanest" split? It was known he sucked, and he drained all the scholarship numbers from the program, but his seemed to be the most clean, I guess.
The split may have been contractually clean with KU paying a shitload of buyout, of course. But, Weis as a college head coach is a national joke, and KU's ineptitude is now attached right to it.
The bill-of-goods from which the program has never recovered.
Granted, this did not make national news, but the whole Zenger line of "I searched the country for the best, and I found Charlie Weis," is so embarrassing in hindsight. Completely duped.

Do you mean to tell me that “pick the guy on the recruiting firm’s canned list” isn’t a solid strategy?

I think about that quote way too often.

You see that pile of crap out there?

That's the quote associated with Weis that I can't shake. All I can think is that the best recruiting pitch you have alienates the players here and appeals to guys who want to take the easy route to playing.

That and he works so hard he has a cot in his office.

I remember hearing some national CFB writers talk about that quote, saying they all looked at each other as if to say, "The fuck he just say?"

The worst part is we keep repeating 'piles of crap' and 'I think about that quote way to often' mistakes. Over and over again.

According to Bryson Stricker, KU Football super fan, Les has been removed.

Just awaiting official word from KU.

He will be removed for cause, I believe because one of the clauses is do not bring forth any issues that create embarrassment for university, or something like that.

Awful timing but Long can't be far behind. If you are going to do another reset you might as well get the guy out who hired him.

I can also remember talking to some friends about the 2020 season and we all agreed it 'can't get worse' well, KU football, once again said 'hold my drink'.

Congratulations, Doug Girod, Jeff Long and Board of Regents for another bumble, fumbled and amateur hour head football coach hiring job.

I'll preface to say that I don't like Jeff Long as AD.

It seems, though, that setting this up "for cause" could save Long's job.

I also tend to believe that firing Long would tend to be making him the scapegoat when it seems pretty apparent that KU hiring Jeff Long was just a vehicle to getting what they really wanted: Les Miles.

you can’t fire one without firing the other, imo

edit: i’m guessing this means Les isn’t going to issue an apologetic and contrite statement

Not here to defend Long. It's just a fucking mess where KU shouldn't get to remove Long and Miles and say, "well, we took care of the two guys who did that to us!"

We're staring right in the face of another lawsuit brought by a former football coach.

Man, I thought this was a nice hire. And I still think it somewhat was the best hire of the last decade for KU football, just sucks this happened.

That's how low the bar is right now.

Hire Willie Fritz, Lance Leipold or Jeff Monken now.

Oh and Jeff Long should not make the hire because he should be gone too.

I'm really not sure if KU wanted Les Miles. They wanted as big of a 'splash' HC they could find so they Long who in turn probably told them he could get Miles. You have to wonder if Long doesn't get fired if that isn't covering KU's ass because they had to have signed off on this whole deal from the beginning.

Amazing how the national media has talked non stop about Les and really nothing about LSU, who is the real culprit behind all of this.

KU, got weak in the knees and caved once again. At this point they have to save whatever, albeit small positive momentum this program had going for it.

This particular round of AD hiring was 100% about which FB HC's were in the candidates' pocket. Les was in Long's.

There was plenty of reason not to hire Long as AD.

Agreed on Long.

I know the situations aren't the same, but hiring the head coach from the University of Buffalo again makes me nervous, lol. Although I am firmly in the camp that Gill should have been given another year. Not sure I'm sold on Fritz. KU's fan base is going to be hard to convince that hiring the guy with a losing record at Tulane is a good hire.

I also think him being on CFP Committee as Chairman was a big wow factor.

Which that position goes into being a member of the good ol' cfb boys' club.

It just sucks because the only people you can truly feel sorry for are the players, by far, and then the loyal fans. Neither of which did anything wrong here. Everyone else has some stink on 'em.
