are these endorsement deals really taking over their coverage?
No

The gambling thing has fully infiltrated sports coverage, though. Bally's, Draftkings, Caesars, etc. have a shit ton of dollars to spend on ads.
I guess it's fine, but we probably need the commentators to stop betting on games they're calling.

No doubt.
There are lots more BWW Chad's than PhD's.
Mmhmm. So the right thing to do was to
plan for this. Not let it overrun the sport.
It's the lack of planning I largely have a problem with.
It's the wild west, which basically means the infrastructure of cheating that was built, is now used as a superhighway, to continue to use this for the same purpose it was used before.
My issue was never about Kofi Cockburn getting an endorsement deal for an antibiotic the cures chlamydia.
My biggest concern was using it as a recruiting tool, and that's exactly how it's being used.
I was poo-pooed for suggesting that there be any regulations preventing it.
Curious how you think a car dealership endorsement equals a recruiting tool?
Also curious if you think we should fire Bill Self for using Adidas employees (and their money) as a recruiting tool?

Don't do it PhD.
He's really not curious.

I'm not PhD nor am I curious but I'm going to chime in.
I figure a car dealership can tell every recruit they get __________ not necessarily if but when they sign with a school. Either way, how is that NOT a "recruiting tool"?
"We" (you and I and to the best of my knowledge no one else on here) are not "authorities" at KU so "we" can't fire Bill Self - and there is a big difference between today's "recruiting tools" and past "recruiting tools" in terms of legality. I believe most kids would prefer to play for Nike schools (more of them and Nike is more popular than Adidas) so I'm hoping Adidas would help kick in some $ so we can land 5* players over the Nike schools and be a solid "recruiting tool" for KU. Assuming it's kosher with the NCAA.

Do you think the NIL deal was exclusively given to him because he went to UK? The dealership is in Louisville. If the dealership said "if you go to UK we will sign a deal with you" then that's against the rules and i don't agree with it....but if the dealership offered him a deal after he had already chosen a college, the deal wasn't dependent on going to a certain school, and the deal was because he's a big time notable basketball player, then it's not against the rules, was not a recruiting tool, and i am totally okay with it.
The shocking double standard some have with this stuff at other places vs what has happened at KU with Self and Co is predictable/understandable, but still makes me shake my head a bit. Self has lived in the gray area with recruiting long before he got to KU, so if purity is what you seek then I am not sure he can be the captain of your ship.

There are dealerships that sell fancy cars in Kansas City too.
I'd guess NIL had nothing to with him not choosing Kansas.
We fancy.

You know the corruption has overrun the sport when our leading scorer is getting free damn Toyota Camrys (Camries?) all over the damn place.

He won't drive it past April.
I am quite certain the dealership will take it back and just take the hit on depreciation, gas, and maintenance in exchange for some instagram posts.
