So what you're saying is we need more government involvement in every aspect of our lives. You have more trust in the politicians than I do.

We have thousands of pages on this board complaining about how dumb, corrupt, inefficient, ineffective our politicians/government is.....

and the answer....is give them more power over everything we do?

Nutty.

Funny...I seem to remember quite a few posts about the government being shitty from you for 4 ish years.

Im just saying the government is shitty....pretty much regardless of who's "team" is the figurehead of the wasteful, blob that it is.

The government was shitty for 4 years because they were actively dismantling everything that government had to do

How dare you. Whatever he just said about libertarians the kids and the pool was the dumbest analogy ive ever heard

One thing any libertarian president would do is cut government spending by a massive amount, something we desperately need

And we gave too many government agencies that need to be cut that don't work on behalf of the American people as a whole

Spending less sounds great, until you actually put your head down and identify how to make that happen.

What you’ll see is that no cuts can possibly matter that don’t touch defense or core entitlements (social security, Medicare, etc). Cutting this $6,000,000 program or that $40,000,000 initiative simply doesn’t matter.

My personal view - which I understand you don’t share, and I don’t think you’re BAD for not sharing it - is that we have to come at the problem from the revenue side AND the spending side.

Yeah, we "desperately" need to cut "spending" on things such as social security, health care, education, veteran's benefits, transportation, etc., etc., etc.

Right. And on the electoral politics side, good luck winning an election with promises to cut defense or core entitlements.

This is the bind McCarthy is in at the moment: he knows he can’t possibly put forward a serious budget proposal, so he’s just firing off the noisemakers and chaff.

You don’t think that we’re reaping the effects at least some of dismantling of controls needed for public safety? It’s generally accepted that the Trump Administration’s gutting of our ability to respond to pandemics, and the response itself made the situation worse. Unless you believe the whole thing is a hoax.

Same regarding rail safety. You and DC can call me all kinds of names but like fish says it’s all platitudes you’re after. Name me five places where you would cut spending resulting in a 20% savings of overall budget. It’s not just a spending issue. For every example of wasted money (I don’t deny that there is wasted spending) I’ll give you an example of an “unjustified giveaway”. For starters, why should social security deductions be capped? Reconsidering that alone would ensure solvency of the program for longer

Yeah. And I think it’s really important to acknowledge that tax cuts and loopholes for the rich are just as much “unjustified giveaways” as wasteful spending. The ultra-rich have - quite effectively, and quite cynically - whipped up the merely rich into this frothy frenzy where the 1% (or 0.5% or 0.1%) take up the fight for the 0.01%. It’s gross.

Oh, good. More things for Republicans to try to shut off without thinking of the implications of it being gone, with zero planning for how to implement the change, putting zero auditing of the process in place or analyzing the best means to accomplish pretty much anything they are trying to do. Can't wait.

Military spending has been getting cut though, steadily for over 50 years.
