I’ll counter and say that Udehs ORtg last season was better than Hunters this season.

Self figures out how to expand that.
Plus better defense.

Udoka Azuibuke averaged 5 ppg his first season. He had a 90 ORtg. Udeh a 112.8.

Not 24/25 recruits but here is question to consider....

You could have Graham and Mason or Brunson and Hart. Who do you choose?

I look at our schedule and see 10+ losses without HD.

I liked Udeh and Zuby, but their performance this year shows exactly why Self went in a different direction.

You've talked about our AdjO rating quite a bit....we'd be in an awful spot without HD. Even if Udeh caught 2 cool alley oops per game on his way to 8pts and us getting blown out by every decent team we played.

10 plus losses to this point so far?

Or 10 plus come tourney time?

Udeh had a better ORtg last season than Hunter this.

You know how I know you don’t know what you’re talking about?

You mock alley-oops as “cool”.
High percentage points are better than long distance misses ie Hunter pretending he has a 3 point shot.

Udoka scored a lot of points from cool alley-oops.

And you’re completely discounting our ability to coach players—especially bigs of Udehs mold—to their potential.

TCUs coaching staff doesn’t even compare.

Udeh would be averaging at least 8 PPG. On like 70 percent. At least.

Udoka jumped from 5 to 13.

10 to this point. No wins against UK UT UConn or Houston. And I'm not flipping Ls to Ws in games where we played shitty by the backwards thinking that we'd have won with a worse team.

Udeh and Zuby aren't KU starter quality (especially not next to already limited DH and Kj). Udeh certainly isn't Dok. Dok's 2nd year he averaged Udeh's career high (Dok only played 11 games his 1st year, but was superior to Udeh year 1).

No argument from me, Udeh would definitely become better being coached by KU staff....but I think he was a year or two away from being able to do anything close to what you're projecting. He was totally lost last year. His performance this year seems to support that he's still somewhat lost and raw.

At Udeh's PP40 just last season, you give him just 20 minutes and he's scoring 6.2 PPG.
That's assuming he doesn't improve in another year under Bill Self in our system.
Not even close to 8 PPG.

And yes, he'd be a better defender than Hunter this season.

Basically what you're saying is that with a possible CPOY and 1st team AA, a top 5 ( what you were arguing earlier this year ) PG in the nation, a forward who should make 3rd team B12 and multiple All Americans, Bill Self would be completely lost, couldn't adjust his team on either end of the court and end up worse than Oklahoma.

Way to go.

Hard to argue with that, but you're extremely biased when it comes to anything HD related.

I don't see how we score with a team that doesn't have HD and instead has Udeh and Zuby.

Sorry. I just don't see it. And I also don't see Udeh shooting 70% with such a significant increase in minutes and volume...and against starters as opposed to having a non insignificant portion of his year 1 KU stats coming against bench players or in blowouts/mop up minutes.

And even your conservative projection of 20mpg is a 20% increase in the amount of minutes he's been capable of playing at TCU this year.

I think it is fair to say Self has even struggled with this team having a historically good duo in KM and HD... I think he'd struggle even more trading HD for Zuby and Udeh....especially when we've gotten to games where KM has been hurt. We really struggle to score.

How did Udoka score 13 PPG his sophomore year when he had a worse ORtg than Udeh his freshman year?
Self utilized his talents.

If you don't think Self could find a way to get Udeh 8-9 PPG and Zuby 4-5 when Parker fucking Braun is getting 2.3 then I cannot help you.

And you keep ignoring the defensive boost we would get by Udeh and Zuby.
Udeh averaged double Hunter's BPM. Zuby triple. Those dudes could swat shots.
Hunter is a bad rim protector.

Also.
TCU. Does. Not. Matter. At. All.
Does TCU have an iota of success when it comes to bigs as Kansas?
Landen Lucas would have transferred to a D2 school if he had to start his career at TCU.

Bill Self's last seed lower than a 5 was at Tulsa.
In 1999.

That'd be their absolute perfect season ceiling, imo.

You're giving them an awful lot of defensive and offensive credit for skills that neither have consistently shown at KU or their new schools. They'd block more shots, but were not all that good at defense other than that at KU, which is why neither played very much.

I trust in Self as much as anyone, but that's an optimistic outlook imo.
