regarding rebounds, lemme pick on KJ this time around.
One bored all day?!
and only 4 rpg average this year...up .3 from last.
It sucks that our non-3-point shooting tweener forward is also not a good rebounder either.
and tho he's undersized, he's nonetheless strong enough to start at the 5, and explosive as F either way. what gives.
Short arms?
It doesn't help he plays defense away from the basket a lot.
Some guys just have "it" when it comes to rebounding. Jalen Wilson was a great rebounder and he can barely dunk and isn't all that tall/long.
It's an area Kj will have to improve heading into next year when we won't have KM who is an excellent wing rebounder.

Yeah kj is not a good rebounder. Neither is hunter, but luckily he is 7'2 and too slow to venture away from the basket very often
Mccullar the best rebounder on this team

Hunter is a good rebounder.
That's crazy.

Hunter is a good rebounder.
That's crazy.
Take a closer look. He's tall and plays a lot of minutes. Spends most his time around the rim. Balls bounce his way
Has there ever been a hunter rebound you were impressed by? I can't recall him rebounding outside his area very often
Trob was a good rebounder. Hunter is a different story

Dude, he's 7th in the nation in rebounds.....he's 316th in the nation in minutes per game.
It's not a minutes thing.
And Yes. He had a rebound out of his area during the first half today.

Yes, TRob was a better rebounder. Which is hardly a knock on Hunter.

Hunters a great rebounder.
He could be the best ever at Kansas if he tried harder.
There were multiple incidents we as posters identified as being lazy and it drove Porter Moser crazy.

He's 7'2 in an era where talented bigs don't stay in college longer than a year or 2.
Today against baylor he played 37 minutes, had 6 rebounds

but....Hunter is not a high effort or highly skilled rebounder. This is true.
He gets lots of rebounds, almost by default. But he isn't a particularly good at it other than being tall and never being far from the rim.

Players aren’t scared to attack the rim against us. It may be because they know Hunter is so important to us offensively that he has to pick and choose his commitment. It may be because he’s an average at best help defender.
But it wasn’t just that today.
We were meh in pressing the perimeter which we did a good job at in Lawrence.
We were way way more meh at stopping their fast and intermediate breaks.

We've had a lot of tall guys that stayed around the basket....none of them got this many rebounds.
How does someone get to 7th in the country in rebounds by "default"?

You can’t discredit someone for being tall or big. He’s a great rebounder but he doesn’t go hard after them. He could be better.
Hunter is 7 foot 2. The tallest player to play for Self. He has an advantage to say the least. So he’s a great rebounder.
But yea not due to effort.
He could have had 2-3 more today with effort.

He's going to get rebounds because he is tall and near the rim. That's worth 4 or 5 rebounds a game right there. When does he actually display a skill for rebounding outside of those factors?
I know you like Hunter, I really don't enjoy watching him play. I think I'll just stop arguing there, because there's not really anywhere else for it to go.

4 or 5 rebounds a game discount just because?
All of our big guys have played around the basket. He's about the slowest and least mobile we've had. He gets rebounds by good anticipation and positioning. His rebounds per 100 possessions this year aren't much lower than Doks average per 100s from his time here (who was also tall and played near the basket).

He gets rebounds because he’s giant.
That’s not a knock really.
He’s just giant.
Also as mentioned KJ the other 4 is just not a good rebounder.

Was that our best loss of the year?
Or Marquette? Although at least we played well for long portions of the Baylor game.

Whithey was damn near as big as Hunter yet still wasn’t a particularly great rebounder

withey 8.5 rpg but Kevin Young rebounded well.
that team also shot 52% from the floor this team shoots 40.5% more rebounds to go around this year theoretically ha
