It’s about how the Nazis were DIRECTLY involved in using US politicians and their government perks to sow doubt among the population and divide public opinion about US getting into what would become WWII. They targeted anti-FDR Republicans (primarily) and antisemitic forces (Father Coughlin and America First*) to this end. The similarities to current Russian modus operandi are eerily similar - although Maddow hasn’t made that connection in the first 5 episodes (I haven’t listened to the 6th yet). It’s only 8 episodes of about 40 minutes each.
*Hmmmmm- where have we heard this phrase before……I wonder……

I wonder if Maddow makes that connection - between German Nazis sowing doubt, and Russia's current efforts.
How effective were the Germans? Were there that many Americans downplaying the third reich or whatever?
I've considered that maybe I really am being fed Russian disinformation. But I still try to find the fine line between potential Russian disinformation and legitimate criticism of U.S. foreign policy. And if I HAVE been fed any Russian disinformation, I dunno how effective it is, cuz I still think Putin's a shithead and their invasion of Ukraine should be condemned.
and if a Russian disinformation campaign is going down right now, doesn't it seem pretty futile?
I mean, who have they successfully persuaded? Maybe a handful of far right lobsters who tweet some lip service hypocrisy but do nothing more than that, and an even smaller handful - like 1 or 2 individuals at a time - of Qusdahls who show up at a "Squad" presser only to get hysterical about nuclear war then get booed out of the place for even bringing it up?

Listen to at least the first couple of episodes. The Nazis were very successful in delaying US entry into the fray.

I mean, once upon a time, didn't the United States actually have some interest in NOT getting involved in yet another war on the other side of the globe, and maybe even generally hesitate to militarily intervene about every single everything everywhere?
I should just listen.
