on that point, 42 points off the bench is obviously an astronomical change from last year
i doubt it remains 50% of the offensive output for the season, but it’s a great sign
Absolutely.
And, it's not just 1 or 2 guys. Zeke Storr Bidunga all can get you double figures off the bench on any night. Add Coit to that group, because I'm not sure how long he'll hold onto his starting spot. And we still don't know what we have with Shak Moore, although he's not known as a scorer.
It does look like our go to guys for baskets (in crunch time) will still be HD and DH. At least early on. We went to HD with designed plays multiple times late. And also on the designed DH drive with 2 or 3 min left.

Shak is supposed to be a true PG I think, so presumably the most likely to back up Juan.
That is, unless someone else does anyway.
Since my feed went out, how'd we look with Juan in foul trouble second half? Who was running the show? I'm guessing our starting PG out was a factor in UNC's run
I also wanted to compliment Zeke. Best create-his-own-shot guy we've had in a while. Those step backs are nasty.

I don't see how Shak makes the real rotation at this point. Especially with Coit starting. When DH is out I expect a mixture of Coit Zeke and KJ to initiate offense. That's what we've shown so far. Only so many minutes to go around.

I got the official invite to the Kansas at Creighton game on December 4th. KU will officially have at least one very loud supporter in the house. Very excited!

KJ was terrible against MSU. Who's ready to explore the idea that our best lineups might not have KJ in them

KJ played 37 minutes vs UNC and had 14 points.
I think he was ( like a lot of dudes ) just way off last night.
He missed shots he normally makes.

I agree. KJ is a very important piece. But I'm still intrigued by our "small lineups" that don't have him in. He can't shoot from the perimeter and clogs things up
Dajuan, zeke, Griffen, storr, and one of the bigs hunter or bidunga.

One of the more impressive plays of the season IMO. When was the last time we had a perimeter player giving us rim protection

Christian Braun was only 1 block behind the team leader two seasons ago so it hasn't been very long at all.

He rolled his ankle against UNC and that is clearly affecting him. He did not practice at all Sunday or Monday for this matchup and it showed.
"“KJ hasn’t done anything since Friday because he turned his ankle and his rhythm was way off. We didn’t know if he’d play,” Self said of the 6-foot-7, 235-pound Austin, Texas native, who missed 6 of 7 floor shots but cashed 5 of 6 free throws, good for seven points with three rebounds and three blocks against the Spartans. “He been out since Friday after the game. He shot today and said he was fine, but you could tell he wasn’t himself tonight,” Self added after Tuesday’s victory."
https://www.kansascity.com/sports/colle ... rylink=cpy"
So I'll cut him some slack for last night's performance. Frankly, we should view Adams hitting 5 of 6 free throws and having 3 blocked shots vs MSU as damn near heroic considering how bad he has been at free throws in his career. KU knows what they have and don't have in KJ. He fits fine when he is healthy.

Good point. Honestly he's not a bad comparison for rylan griffen. Does a little bit of everything. Would love to see girffen keep improving in that direction

Coit is out rebounding KJ this year. Per game, not just per 40.
FWIW he's also out rebounding Griffin and Storr, who were known to be poor rebounders coming in.

I'm pretty intrigued by this too.
I'm also intrigued by the idea of a Zeke/Griffen/AJ/KJ/big lineup.
Tho Dajuan is a better and more established PG, it seems Zeke can play PG too...and is a better shooter and scorer than Dajuan. The idea here is if we gotta play a non-shooter in the lineup, maybe it's better for it to be the all-purpose utility forward rather than the lead guard, depending on the matchup and in-game situation and such.

Griffin makes mental mistakes on D but he's so BRush-like in length and lateral quickness. I'm really excited to see how good he'll get on that end, hopefully by the tournament or sooner.

Rebounding doesn't really seem to be an issue with this team so I am not worried about it much. KJ has never been a consistently good rebounder. We have enough capable guards and wings that KJ, when healthy, can just rotate around and try to focus on shutting specific guys down on defense. It's hard to be a lock down guy AND a rebounder.

Coit is amazing player he's probably just too little to be a viable option

soo
this is prob too early to even speculate, but...
what's the status of Shak?
And, if he ends up having to sit out much more, is it worth discussing/is it even an option to take, a medical redshirt?

and if Shak does come back, how likely is it he even works himself into the rotation, given the backup PG duties shared by Zeke/Diggy thus far

I've been wondering about shak too. He's supposedly one of the best athletes and defenders on the team. Seems like the kind of guard self would love. I've imagined he's the obvious back up point.
I really like coits game, but hate the idea of Kansas playing a 5'8 dude meaningful minutes

how you feel about Zeke spending significant minutes at PG?
