It's interesting - while this could very well be a tactical give on McConnell's part, I'm not so sure. Any gives don't play well with the boss.

More importantly, I think adding days to the process is of great strategic benefit to the Democrats. Not only does it keep substantive arguments from being made well into the night, it also carries a lot of risk of intervening events. Every day that goes by before the final vote is tallied carries with it at least some significant possibility of further revelations/Trump outbursts/cracks in the GOP firewall.

But you're assuming that A.) others in the Senate are more nobly motivated (which I doubt); and B.) that his constituents haven't already had ample opportunity to judge his character and to decide its relevance to them.
