Sadly, I compliment Q, and they revert to form. Looked at first pitch strikes all game. They were facing a tough right hander so of course Massey and Isbel "rest" a day before the break . Jeebus

Lost series to Red Sox.
Drafted a promising player though in Caglianone…could even be a 2 way guy.

Also not mentioned here - Royals traded for a reliever and gave up one of their best prospects.
I dunno man.
This just doesn't seem like the year to buy.

I'm not mad at the price, or the player acquired. Royals look pointed toward being in/out by a very very very small margin, and that's exactly when you should do this sort of thing.

I don't know how the rules work exactly. If there is strategic advantage (thinking of the three-batter minimum rule) in having a guy you could move into the pitcher spot and then back into the field (such that the next pitcher you bring in replaces the fielder you put in this guy's spot), there could be a whole lot of value in something like this.

Most things i've seen is that IF ( and its a big if ) hes going to stay 2 way, he'd be a reliever.
So you DH him from the start and then he just starts pitching in the 6th inning?

Fully agree that, if he pitches at all, it'll be in relief.

In a reasonably-optimistic world, he'd be good enough that you at least could have him close out games (and burn the DH spot, I guess?) that are out of hand. Even if he's below-average as a pitcher, simply saving your bullpen from having to pitch 30ish low-leverage innings has a positive knock-on effect for your "real" bullpen.

He seems to be pretty decent at both, but the Royals need him somewhere in the field. Salvy will be DH for a few years more. On the Nationals deal, the worst part was Anderson DFA. Garcia not hitting his weight not great, but he is a special third base guy. Q needs to get over some of his stupid platooning. Reminds me of Jim Frey without the one year of success.

Right.
If he can come and just be a situational pitcher as a bit of a bonus to being a power guy to nudge in after Bobby Witt that'd be fantastic.

I think he's slotted to be a first baseman but I don't think he's supposed to be very good defensively.

I dunno, I've seen draft analysts say he's a good enough athlete that it's at least worth trying him out in an OF corner. But by no means do you delay his track over defense - especially when you consider that his profile as a hitter tends to not age all that well (but it does get very expensive).

If he's major-league ready as a hitter by some time in 2026, I don't care where he plays.

Just nice to see hitting prioritized finally. Agree with all. RF seems to be a good bet--good arm and the Ruth pitcher/slugger template

Home run derby a treat tonight. Witt looked great. Actually had one more HR than Hernandez on the night.

With the offense being a bit neurotic, I was daydreaming about a Ben Zobrist type for just such a situation.

I think one of our top 3 prospects isn’t worth reaching for a guy who, we in theory need this season, hasn’t been good ( this season ).

Witt. Man. HR derby fixed his swing
Kind of counter to conventional wisdom

Ok. This is as good as it could get first weekend after break.

Loss totals are right at even, which is fantastic. When total games aren’t even, that stat is more important to watch.

The not as good. Home games remaining.

Royals 30
Sox 33
Twins 35
M’s 31

Clev 38 (ouch)
