Wasn't tasteless and wasn't a joke. You really did/said nothing wrong. I'm now living in a country where I have to be careful if someone says a woman has a nice dress - that I don't respond,"Indeed it is, looks great on her, and it was awfully nice of her father to buy it for her".
There are people who would actually have a problem with that.
Please put that as number 79,642 on my list of why this is possibly the most overrated country in the world.
