The kids shoot. They'll know where the guns are. Having trick doors would just make them want to show the doors off to friends.

Have a secret door or panel installed for a bathroom. Don't even tell the wife about it. That would be sweet.

If you decide to go with carpet, just remember that carpet on concrete still means a very hard floor.

If your water heater is in the basement, keep paths to the floor drain in mind. If a water heater fails after it’s about 20 years old, it fails by its bottom dropping out, causing a flood. That happened to me in two different homes.

Our water heater is 18 years old. We don't have any issues now, but I think it's probably smart to just replace it now, before much is built up around it.

Yeah at that point, if you're already dropping beaucoup bucks for basement renovation, it's better to just change that thing out as well.
