Trump's a bully and bullies rarely ever back up their big mouth bluster with actual action.

Going to war is bad for his base in reelection. It's their kids that get shipped off to die. The states with the highest average number of military enlistees in 2017 were Georgia, South Carolina, Idaho, Alaska and Texas, all of which were won by Trump in 2016.

Looking like a tough guy is good for his base in reelection. That doesn't cost them anything.

The good news is that many in his base may have no idea any of this is going. There is no mention of a US drone being shot down over international airspace by Iran on the front page of Fox News. Just stories about a Facebook moderator dying, AOC, a fight over a cross shaped memorial, illegal immigrants, etc...

It does get mentioned halfway down the page, but only from the angle of "Biden calls Iran tensions 'self-inflicted disaster' after US drone shoot-down."

Blissful ignorance, I suppose.

But never underestimate the effects of collective stupidity and hubris, or what passes for the Trump circle of advisers and Cabinet. The Chickenhawk cabal headed by Bolton will do just abuot anything, consequences be damned! This is history repeating itself from 2002-03.

To his credit, trump does not seem to want to go to war.
Although, he somehow expects Iran to live up to the Nuclear treaty that he broke.
I would love to have a consistent, well thought out, and communicated foreign policy.

I'd settle for just having some mature adults in the White House.

Well, yeah. That was kind of the point.

Trump spoke against the Iraq war vehemently during the debates. Then he hired Bolton. Makes no sense.

What's the over/under that Trump "just received a beautiful letter from" the Ayatollah, “And then we fell in love, okay? No, really - he wrote me beautiful letters, and they’re great letters,”, so Trump called the retaliatory air strikes off?

Unfortunately, the really sad part is that we are not in a position where we can confidently say that we trust OUR country's officials!

Kind of a nice development to hear that the guy with the biggest hard on to go to war with a country that is no threat to the US has been sidelined.

Progress?

Trump knows that the best bet for re-election is if we are at war.

Book it.

It’s been my understanding that we have been in a war for the last 18 or so years.
