Some ultra conservatives are claiming that Trump was sent by God to save the conservative movement. So no, it wasn't just a better option than Clinton for some.

I know plenty of people who felt like God saved us from having Dowdy as POTUS. They don't see DJT as a great or moral man, but compared to the absolute evil they see in Dowdy, he is a reprieve.

I have heard it compared in some Christian circles to Cyrus the Great's conquest of Babylon in the Old Testament. Israel was in exile in Babylon and Cyrus of Persia overthrew them. In the process, he decided to release the Jewish captives and allow them to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple. Was Cyrus a good man? No. Was he sent by God to facilitate the release of his people from a more evil empire? Yes.

It is not a perfect analogy, and I think it oversimplifies the issue, but I tend to agree that DJT was the lesser of two evils. The jury is still out as to the 2020 election in my mind.
