Having Pete as VP draws a demographic that Biden lacks.
What demographic is that?
Younger people.
Not saying this is comprehensive.
Vox, 2/11/2020:
The polling on Buttigieg among millennials and Gen Z-ers has been a bit more mixed. In the most recent national Quinnipiac poll, he holds a mere 6 percent support among the 18-34 age group (on par with Joe Biden). However, in Iowa, Buttigieg ran neck-in-neck with Elizabeth Warren on the youth vote, winning 23 percent of the millennial-heavy 30-39 age group (Bernie Sanders overwhelmingly won this demographic). And according to a recent Economist/YouGov poll, similar percentages of voters aged 18-29 and 30-44 hold “favorable” and “unfavorable” views of the former mayor.
After supporting Sen. Bernie Sanders' 2016 presidential campaign, Clarence Boston wanted to check out a fresh face for 2020.
The 29-year-old likes Pete Buttigieg’s youth, his military experience, as well as “what he says and how he says it.”
But when Boston traveled from his home in Vermont to attend a Buttigieg town hall in New Hampshire last month, one thing surprised him about the large crowd.
“I don’t see as many young people as I expected,” Boston said.
One of the oddities of the 2020 presidential contest is that Buttigieg, the youngest candidate at age 37, draws his lowest support from the youngest voters and is best liked by the oldest.

Biden's running mate will matter more than usual. I'm not sure he can make it a full campaign

NONE of the major candidates should be running, except maybe Warren.
Biden, Bernie, Bloomberg, and Trump are all Sgt, Murtaugh.
