When the CDC says that, I will.

Note the words - chance, very, few, complications.

Of course. Why would I deny that? It's the facts. I never said it didn't kill a lot of people -- it has.

I think what people are upset about is when I mentioned previously that 96% of people recovered just fine (and these were just those who were confirmed cases). Other doctors have shown that if we actually tested everyone who had the virus, it would around 99.4% of people who recover.

There are also some side effects from those people who do recover.
It is more dangerous than the flu.

A 1% fatality rate is not as big of an issue if say, <5% of the population becomes infected. You'd be talking about fewer than 200,000 deaths in this country.

A 1% fatality rate becomes a really big problem when lets say >95% of people become infected. You're talking about 3 million people dying

Since this is a new disease, none of us are immune, and it is more infectious than something like influenza, so without taking steps to stop the spread A LOT more people could be infected.

The BEST strategy to inhibit spread is to have lots of people immune to the virus, which happens if you have herd immunity which is when the vast majority of the population becomes vaccinated.

The reason to get vaccinated is to keep those fatalities to the 1% much lower by reducing the total number of people who become infected.

Ebola is a lot easier to deal with epidemiologically though.

It's less infectious. Symptoms show up early, so you aren't out spreading it before you're sick. And there aren't asymptomatic carriers, so contact tracing is easier since there are no missing links. You have a much better chance of containing an outbreak.

If I HAD to get one, I'd MUCH MUCH rather get Covid19. But I'm not sure that Ebola is the bigger threat from a global pandemic causing perspective.
