Hey dum dums. You are completely missing the point.

Yes they had 8 future NBA players. They were deep. But Self didn't go beyond that 8.

This team has a greater depth 1-10 then that team did. Self won't expand beyond the 8 guys.

No it doesn't.

And players 1-6 were so superior to next years team that it just doesn't matter if there is an extra mediocre player on the bench. You can only play 5 guys at once.

Ok misworded. How about more depth from the 7-10 spots? Because that is for sure the case.

Remember when all he did was the high/low too?

That's probably closer....but 7-10 on 07-08 was

Kaun
Aldrich
Rodrick
Case?

Who are 7-10 going to be for next year?

We always think we're deep in July. We do this every year. The fact that Self is only gonna play 8 guys, means we aren't more than 8 deep. The guys who don't play will be busts because they won't play.

Depth doesn't matter much anyway, unless there are injuries/suspensions. Even then it only matters if it happens early enough in the season to get the replacements acclimated.

40 minute games 2X week with like 500 commercial breaks. You need top end talent. That's what we struggled last year. We need guys (Och, Wilson, Dave, and Braun) to have improved significantly and we need Remy to be a stud.

I'm always a little leary of how good a "star player from a mediocre team" is. Lawson was that, and put up great numbers, but that team fizzled out after Dok's injury. I think of guys like Love or Bosh in the NBA...is Remy ready to be the lead guard on a F4 team, or is he just a guy who put up big numbers on a mediocre ASU team?

Yeah we always have the depth convo this time of year.

But depth also has the effect of pushing the cream to the top of the 8 man rotation, rather than just having to pick 8 based on who sucks the least.

Even if the depth doesn’t result in subbing 5 guys at once, it makes the whole team better either way

I think so to...up to a point.

I think you benefit from having 8-9 guys who are good enough to be starters. It's better to have guys 6-7 pushing the starters, and it's better to have guys competing to get into the 7-8 man rotation.

I don't know that you get much added benefit having 10-13 guys, if anything you worry about attitudes. There's probably some benefits early on from competition, but during the season when practices are less intense and less frequent, I just don't see much benefit.

I mean, ironically enough, when we had our deepest rotation, (‘10), all that nba talent wanted to just stand around and let Sherron play hero ball either way

I think you're conflating '09 Sherron and '10 Sherron

And the twins weren't as dominant yet iirc.

Which, as you say, had nothing to do with Lawson. Remy is a legit great college PG. I'm certain he's limited at the next level, but he'll be in the conversation for best guard in the country next season. ASU being mediocre had nothing to do with him.

Ochai will be a very solid player for us next year. but I don't see him making a big jump or his numbers really improving from last year. we will have a lot more depth and i just don't think he is that aggresive or good of a playmaker. we brought in playmakers..

but he should be an elite 3 and d role player at least

Depth matters more when you're trying to score 130 points and running your opponent to death, and when there weren't as many media timeouts.

True. But his full team swaps were rarely anything more than an angry reaction to poor play and usually ineffective....and i liked roy more than most here.
