Lobster was hard core into alkaline water, even though, not surprisingly there's no scientific evidence to support it.

I think it's pretty dumb and harmful to the environment, and in most places drinking water is cleaner anyway, and where it's not it makes more sense to filter it rather than drink bottles.

But, then there are the times when bottled water is just way more convenient...so I think it should exist, we just overuse it by like 100 fold.

I didn't take a science class after CHEM184, so what do I know, but the "pH balanced water" is just a marketing campaign I could never fall for. Got into a huge argument with an ex over paying a premium for it.

Especially since the first place it goes is into your stomach which has a pH similar to battery acid.

We tried this in our grad school lab once…….pure distilled water at pH 7 with all the electrolytes taken out (ultra low conductance) tastes absolutely like garbage. There is good reason for this. The oral cavity is a finely balanced environment where the salts and moisture are in a steady state. If you disrupt it with something that is either very high or very low salt content (or very low moisture content for that matter) the taste receptors all go completely bonkers. When you drink water, equilibrium is established quite rapidly. When we drink common water the micro level of electrolytes are sufficient to not disrupt the equilibrium terribly.

So triple distilled water, about as pure water as one can get, is really awful tasting!!

i was always under the impression that the distillation process left residual copper ions in the water

I was told by some like nuclear engineer that the only thing true pure water is going to do is give you the runs.

Not if the equipment is all glass. Most commercial distillation apparatus contains copper coils etc. It’s all in the contact surfaces. In fact, distilled water is a lot more corrosive than tap or river water for exactly that reason. There is a minuscule solubility for various ions and when water is saturated with those ions (“regular” water) it doesn’t leach any from the pipes to achieve that saturated state.

All in on sparking water and spiked seltzers.
Drink flat water if I'm doin yard work or exercising and sparkling for everything else.

Not the best over time for your teeth or environment but we all have vices.

I tried San Pellegrino once. Didn't like it.

If it's hot I usually drink a coors lite, central American lager or a wild basin or bon and viv.

It's water. When I'm thirsty I just drink tap water (with a PUR filter), but I'm not picky about water. I'll drink it from my garden hose if I'm outside mowing or landscaping and sweating profusely.

Don't think I've ever tried sparkling water. I will occasionally buy "flavored" water at QT or something.

makes sense...not sure why i was stuck on the idea that only copper coils were being used
