I followed the Trans-Pac race to Hawaii in 1978 and then we island hopped for the next couple of months before sailing back to San Diego. While moored in Hanalei Bay, Kauai, I took the Avon to shore and hiked through pasture to the base of Mount Waialeale. Along the way I picked and ate every psilocybin mushroom i could find, for the first half hour, then I just put them in a bag. Four hours later I found myself on shore by my raft with a bag of shrooms. There were a couple of hippies sitting on a bench nearby so I walked over and gave them the bag.

yeah, spray some water and dish soap on it, make sure there are no bubbles, then turn the fvcker on, well that's how I do it. ;)
Yep. Thats one way to do it. Shit half the guys with meters and equipment still spray soapy mix on the valves and fittings as a double check

I have hooked up way more hazardous stuff in the lab, like hydrogen, ammonia, oxygen, chlorine gas, etc in the lab without any reservations (using the soap-water testing for leaks) - most if not all under very high pressure. If it comes in a cylinder I’ve used it. But somehow domestic gas lines give me the heebeegeebees. I’m sure it’s entirely psychological. I have this nagging feeling that there are just 5 molecules leaking out every minute, and accumulating in my house. I know I can smell it before it gets dangerous…..it’s like how some people are afraid of heights or spiders….or vaccines.

Morels are easy to identify. Beyond that dont eat the ones growing out if cow patties unless you want to go into an alternate reality or worse.
what’s worse than an alternate reality?

regular old reality

I’m still curious about this, and about successfully foraging for food in general.

I think more than anything it’s a matter of identification. Don’t eat anything unless you know it’s ok to eat.

But I’m still cautious too, since mushrooms in particular are one of those things we’re taught to avoid

You could look for a foraging group and join them. Check with a university, they may have something. Or a county extension office.

Is "heebeegeebee" really a word?

Not judging, mind you
Please, I implore you to be reasonable...
