It showed a degree of insanity growing inside Brown as he descended into crossing the lines of what should be acceptable in a "religious" battle.
It also had some funny scenes. like this:

I remember a review somewhere that said it portrayed Brown as pretty loony.
I can't find it now, but recently saw some quote from Frederick Douglass like, "After meeting with John Brown, I grow increasingly concerned that the struggle to end slavery cannot be achieved peacefully."
