I do not think Self would show Dave the door. Especially if we lose several players to the draft. Dave will be 23 this year. Not terrible for a 5th year guy.

Might depend on if Dave is willing to accept a decreased role, similar or less to what it has been the past couple of weeks. Adams, Clemence, Udeh, Wilson--those guys are more than worthy of frontcourt minutes.

it’s a bummer that there’s even a question mark surrounding it.

Welcoming back a super senior should be a no-brainer.

There is no question from me.
It is a no-brainer for me.

The only semi-similar situation I can think of is Naadir, but there doesn't seem to be nearly as much friction between Dave and Bill as what there was with Naadir and Bill. Vick was all friction, had nothing to do with on-the-court performance.

I don't think it's a matter of Bill not welcoming him back. I just don't think he'd want to stay. He's gotten worse, his minutes have decreased, and the fanbase is brutal toward him. Seems like an obvious grad transfer situation.

True on first 2 reasons, might need a different atmosphere. Nonsense on the last. This is a small community.

Again, no thanks on Dave next season. It's time for everyone to move on.

Do college athletes read what's written about them on social media? I'm not talking KCrim

It's not just KCrim.
Twitter is ablaze on trashing him.
But you're a high profile athlete so you gotta be prepared for that.

Even if the fanbase is brutal, it’s not like they arbitrarily started picking on him just cuz.

It’s cuz despite being a senior he’s paradoxically back to making freshman mistakes.

But yea, good chance Self too goes all sentimental fanboy about it and welcomes him back, in a decision based not necessarily on performance potential, as much as the warm fuzzy nostalgia.

I'm sure some social media stuff gets read. I would hope a senior player would know how to handle that.

But, brutal to me is the stuff that was said to the Self family in public after the Bucknell and then Bradley games. Or the students booing J.R. out of the Fieldhouse. Every player is going to catch a little flak on social media.

Posters can be rough, here, but these boards haven't had a KU student in like 5+ years?

Yes, Self decides who is on the team. Nobody gets to stay who he doesn't want to stay.

I think the gist here is that Dave will have an open invite to return from Bill, but that Dave might not choose to take it.

I tend to agree on the first, but think that Dave will come back if he wants another year of college ball. I think good Dave is very useful for next year's team--and that would be ideal if Dick is going to be a OAD. But, I do hope it doesn't chase out a guy like Clemence or Adams or maybe even Udeh for 2024.

Yup.

And if Udeh is superior then Dave will be a good back up playing 15min per game. Which is probably best for everyone.

Yep.
If Udeh is better, it'll be Chieck Diallo pdub all up in this piece.
But not until/if he's better.

It is also feeling more like MJ Rice will come here. Maybe NIL helped or the fact that he's not on 2023 draft boards right now. Hard to tell--Prolific Prep is just chock full of NBA hanger-ons and shady characters.

MJ Rice coming.
Wilson back.
I don't think Dave comes back ( but I want him to ).

Braun coming back 45/55 ( 55% chance he gone ).
Ochai gone.
