Twitter/X has become trash.
And yes, very poli-bored focused trash.
Elon just tanked that company.

yea.

It was already kinda struggling to begin with, as its focus shifted from a simple community of users to discuss news and events and everything else for 140 characters at a time, to a platform with a focus increasingly on commercialization and creating revenue for shareholder returns and competing with other platforms as they too drifted from user-based communities to more commercialized products.

But Elon was the kiss of death.

It's not complicated, I was just trying to keep this from spinning off into outer space.

The same people who think that facebook was violating the first amendment by moderating false information, are apparently the same people who have no problem with X and its owner more-or-less buying something that kinda doesn't NOT look like Trump's margin of victory.

It worked.
Now he can profit after his looses.

at what point do twitter and truth social just merge?
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

I don't think we should be surprised at all if - free-speech-absolutism, small-and-weak federal gubmint cognitive dissonance be damned - we very quickly see our tax dollars put to work at squeezing other places out of existence.

The topic of this thread is an obvious starting place, given what it's turning into.

Again, no one is going to come out and say specific things in all-caps.

But watch: it won't be long at all before people start making censorship or infringement noises in its general direction. And then mysteriously those noises will somehow manifest into proceedings before very specific courts.

I'm pretty sure you mean this more in a Magahead censorship kinda way.

But I'm also concerned this whole "squeezing other places out of existence" has very much been and is being committed by other tech giants at large, and perhaps certain in particular.

The "buy or bury" strategy Zuck has been accused of comes to mind.

And now give one of those tech giants the backing of everything the federal government can bring to bear.

I mean, I think that's more or less what we're already seeing.

After all the issues and controversies created by big tech, dunno if they've ever been subjected to much more than a slap on the wrist.

What you're suggesting seems different tho, that Elon's cozy relationship with Trump may yield some favorable treatment by the gummint for Twitter. Maybe, I guess?

I dunno if the government can compel advertisers and high-profile accounts to remain on Twitter when it's otherwise just some free market decision to jump ship.

And, again, as far as "give one of those tech giants the backing of everything the federal government can bring to bear," that kind of already sums up so much of Elon's career either way. He's not exactly self-made.

musk is apparently cozy with the potential new fcc chair as well…a few more like-minded individuals and cbs/60 Minutes might start sweating a bit

and i won’t even mention starlink

as i said in another thread, oligarchy-in-waiting
