HCBS doing his best to keep Grimes positive. Grimes will have it together by March. Maybe he stays another year. Wouldn't be a bad thing.

Right now we could throw out there a stuffed shirt and get the same results. I would almost bet your life Grimes is coming off the bench this Saturday.
Or, a big time game against a big time opponent under the brightest of the bright lights might be just what he needs to get himself jump started. Maybe Saturdays game will be just what the doctor ordered for Grimes.
I believe that it was freshman Svi who lost his starting job to Oubre when Oubre finally stopped being so clueless.

Is this like when an athletic director goes on record and says: "You see that dead-man-walking? He is our football coach!"

Somewhere in the middle. If we want to make any kind of run, we need firepower. Grimes was a do all guard that isn’t doing much. Build him up and tilt him downhill.

I agree. I was ready to bring Newman off the bench last year.
There were focus issues there, though. After a 1-2 game benching around this time, Newman came on strong. I don't think Grimes would react the same way. I'm not giving up on him quite yet.

Grimes just had that stretch averaging like 16 ppg so he’s got it in him.
But you gotta believe a no-show will be treated with a short leash.
And wait Newman was benched? In favor of whom?

Newman was benched at least twice. Always in favor of Marcus Garrett

If only Newman had stayed:
Dotson
Newman
Vick
Garrett
Lawson

Newman would be a huge X factor for us. Plus I think he'd thrive in this role where he could take 15 shots a game....some guys just don't want to play for free and do the whole school side of the deal?

Here’a a fun little exercise:
If we were to assemble a Bill Self KU all-tournament honors, does Newman make 1st team?
That E8 performance was unreal.

Probably not. 1st team would go to guys from 2008.

One game?
Newman Duke 18 ( 32 pts ).
BRush UNC 08 ( insert outscoring entire UNC team graphic ).
TRob NC State 12 ( 18 and 15 in a 60 point game, won by 3 ).
Aldrich Dayton 09 ( trip doub - with BLOCKS! ).
Mason Purdue 17 ( 26, 7 and 7 on 9/11 and 4/5 ).

Self is way too loyal to bench QG. This is his way of encouraging QG and sending a message. That said, I'm sure QG will have a short leash and hopefully he responds... He knows he's not producing to the level he's capable of.

Because of the importance of it, you could also say Arthur Memphis 08 or Chalmers Memphis 08.
Also you can't include it, but IF Simien had hit the turn around v Bucknell, you'd have that one in here ( 26 and 10 - woulda been 28 and 10 with a game winner ).

That's quite the twist on the usual complaint about how Self loves upper classman and will pull freshman without even blinking.

My all tournament team would be (not single game performances)
Chalmers
Rush
Arthur
Tyshawn
TRob
Honorable mention: Sherron
If they didn't get to the national championship game then I can't really consider them over the options listed above. It's a 6 game tournament. We are Kansas. No participation ribbons for good sweet 16/elite 8 type performances. 2012 team didn't win, but they fulfilled their potential with that roster and went against a team with a historically good star player..

We don't really have any vets this year worth playing over the young guns.

mitch lightfoot. self went back to the 2 post lineup.
yes there was a 2-3 or so game period last season where mitch lightfoot was a starter.
