so...Rivian?
pricey, but seems a better EV truck option than tesla’s monstrosity
Tesla is going to get swallowed up, market share wise.
I predict either Ford or Volkswagen Auto Group will have the lions share of EV sales within 5 years.

Hyundai, Nissan and Volvo will be ones to watch on a global scale.

saw that a chinese company has a higher-end sedan it’s offering that starts under $30K. not sure if it’ll be available in the US though

None of this matters until we have something different than lithium battery. its dnot an endless supply and the process of extracting is incredibly unfriendly to the environment. Yay i drive an electric car....I will ignore the impacts of my lithium requirements...

does anyone have experience with a Tesla? Like owned or driven one enough to form an opinion.
I feel like some car nerd buddy of mine who was otherwise a Tesla fanboy said they’re actually not great cars, as far as features and functions and QC goes, especially for the price point

How long does it take to charge an EV? I can't see doing a cross country road trip in one if you have to spend hours at the "pump" to recharge.

i’ve been saying this for a while. not only is the front end of production problematic environmentally (not that china cares), but there is a huge end-of-life issue as well. though, i did see that some of these old ev batteries are being repurposed for the nomad movement (tiny houses, vans, RVs, campers)
but, gotta start somewhere

depends on the voltage you’re pushing, among other things
59h at 110v...to just over an hour at 440v
edit: that’s for a kia, but is probably in the ballpark

Drove a Volvo Polestar a few weeks ago. Light years ahead of the 2 Teslas I have driven, particularly in fit and finish.

I mean.....fit and finish should be the easiest part to replicate right ?

What’s the trade off of lithium battery production and recycling/disposal, versus the environmental impact of burning fossil fuels for comparable mileage?

There is just a difference with some higher end brands.

Hey, they are ramping up a lithium processing plant at Salton Sea. Might as well bunch our ecological disasters in a tight package.

i don’t think it’s as easy as that...too much nuance in the impacts associated with each to being directly compared
i think we know what impacts are from internal combustion, but the first lithium batteries are only like 40 years old now. relatively few have actually reached the end of their usable life. for those that have, only 5-10% of the battery is recyclable (vs something like 99% of old-school lead-acid car batteries)
i think the recyclability will improve as demand increases

Not going to stop people from buying them, though.
I think I've said this before, my interest is much more related to a cost-saving standpoint than environmental.
Not that I'm gonna go start a forest fire or anything, though.

They have a really good infotainment setup. They feel nice. I'm not a huge fan, though, and tend to prefer the European and Asian luxury lines.
Weird quirk, though, the ones in built in California have shitty paint because of regulations.

https://www.foxnews.com/auto/fabric-bod ... 4350-miles
A new plug-in hybrid off-road pickup being developed in the U.K. will be available in a version that can travel 7,000 kilometers, or 4,350 miles between fill-ups.
The Fering Pioneer is a 4x4 series hybrid driven by a pair of electric motors that draw power from either a small battery pack that's good for 50 miles of all-electric driving, or an 800 cc three-cylinder diesel generator that allows it to get 42 mpg and provide off-the-grid power for equipment...

Starting to see more and more options in the truck/SUV/commercial classes. Here's another I will follow as time goes by:
