As Mellinger said, it is in KU's best interest (and everyone else's) to not say/hear one damn thing about the win total until at least 2023.
We have to stop making the same mistakes over and over.
I give it a year-and-a-half before people start crying about wins & losses again.
That's generous.
The complaining and calls for his head will begin on Oct 17th if team is 0-6. That's the just the Kansas Football way......

Heaven forbid a fan might expect a win or ( gasp ) two in the first season.

Yeah, at least if we're not going to win any games until 2023, can we have a moratorium on all the "we're trending in the right way", "This program has a better feel", and "We're getting good recruits" posts. I mean, we've had a shit ton of those, even during the Miles era. So, how come that won't translate to wins for 3 years?

I love the unrealistic expectations that some people have for the shittiest football program in America.

I dont see how asking for 1 or 2 wins in a football season should be unrealistic.

Neither do I; I'm talking about people asking for 4 or 5 wins by year-3.

I don't see how that's unrealistic either.
We shouldn't have to accept being the worst.
Four wins in a season is still bad.
A d1 school has gone from 0 wins to 8 the next season. We should be able to expect four wins by the third.

Expecting wins is one thing, want big to start over again after an 0-6 start is something else.

It needs to be a steady climb; if the program makes visible progress on the field in year two and gets everyone overly "excited" but then regresses in year 3 (as compared to expectations), Leipold is screwed.

Just listening to some interviews and whatnot. Just crazy to think Liepold has had same OC for like 8 years..
In the last 10 years since the Weis era began, Kansas has had 8 coordinators and will be on their 9th.
What a shitshow.

I'm excited about the new OC. Supposed to have been the football brains behind Leipold.
The new OL coach also sounds very promising. Now bring in some transfers.

Yes, we need to be cautious about being too successful. Let's make sure we don't get too many of those nasty wins right away.
Maybe we ought to throw a couple games in year two just to make sure we keep the bar low.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I have left Lance the keys to the football program for as long as he wants them. He is the first hire we have had since Mason that didn’t give me the creeps. Mangino was a mountain of anger. Gill was weirdly off on zealot territory. Weiss was a used toothbrush salesman. Beaty seemed to be a fugitive. Miles seemed like a dementia-addled gambler. Leipold seems like he remembers when he told you to run steps.

Yeah, I mean, you let the guy coach through at least his first contract.
But, if we're 1-11 in year two, you bet your ass I'll complain. Any decent fan will.

That is fair. But I bet having someone like Leipold—focused—will render moot our fears. You almost have to want to fail to get where we are now.

It's still a minor miracle Leipold is here. He was literally 1 more 8-4 season away from being at a better P5 school.
But here's the thing that Leipold mentioned to a small group of media after his presser. He's from Wisconsin and is a Packers and Brewers fan, they don't have the resources that the Cowboys or Yankees do, but they work hard, they grind and they get some serious work done.
He was probably looking for a job that "fit" his preference to grind and make places better, not just continue on with something. And this seems to fit that bill.

Pfft, on several levels.
