My thesis for today is how a bunch of people who have a common interest (KU sports) can get together on a message board and say fuck that common interest and instead have an attitude of let's become jag offs towards one another - for no other reason than people get off on being assholes.
That's the main reason why I choose to delete accounts and take breaks from this place.
It's fucking shameful.
Anyways, have a lovely Saturday boys and girls.

lol, bro, it's abundantly clear that you're the one who doesn't understand the free market concept.
I have an undergrad degree in ecomonics. I'm comfortable with my grasp of the concept thanks.
Hmm, my Senior thesis in History and Econ was "The Mexican Expropriation of United States Oil Interests in 1936 and its Effect on U.S. oil reserves for World War II."
What was your thesis TDub?
I didnt need a thesis for an undergrad degree.

I do sincerely apologize.
I would like to hear more about the female that received a stimulus check who really didn't need it brag about the fact that she used the check as a down payment for her husband's new truck. THAT is the free market at work.

We dont have a free market. Never have and never will. Government interference is too broad, unemployment, subsidies, price fixing, price setting, sin taxes, embargos, there is no such thing as no such thing as a true free market possible in a governed society.

You know where they really have a true capitalist economy (“Free Market”)? Somalia. Money talks. Money buys guns. Guns make the rules. Looks like Republican dream! True capitalists can move there?

That's called anarchy, not a free market.

If you say Somalia you can slander and laugh and hardee har all the way across the bay Bridge...who cares if youre right?
Hong Kong and New Zealand would be more realistic examples (not totally free but way closer than we are ) but that doesnt provide any laughs....

Anecdotes about anecdotes, nice.
We should take economic advice from Russian cab drivers more often!
But “being unemployed is as or more profitable than working” is, once again, quite the indictment of the free market.
Because burger flippers deserve to be paid $20 an hour. Right. So you've said.
Another option would be that minimum wage was never intended to be a destination and should be motivation to move up in the world, not incentive to be a 45 year-old doing work intended for a 16 year-old.
Where’d I say that? (About never flippers and $20 an hour). You sure you aren’t putting words in my mouth?
And that’s a good observation. In fact, that’s precisely the problem I’m trying to discuss! Employers wanna marginalize their staff positions, then wonder why no one wants to work for them? That’s not the free market, that’s having yer cake and eating it too.
Maybe if employers DID treat their openings as some kind of “destination,” as you call it, where there IS a competitive enough incentive to work, maybe people will work.
Cuz, “please come work for us but we’re not giving you any better than high school wages” isn’t exactly a lucrative recruiting pitch. Perhaps the issue is, again as you put it, that those workers found the “motivation to move up in the world,” and simply don’t wanna bother with those shit jobs no more?
I don't disagree with any of that. My point is that we all have to start off somewhere, and if the government disincentivises starting or staying in the process, then nobody does the jobs and we all pay them not to do the jobs.

Hong Kong? Seriously? Maybe in the 60s....if you thought the ACA is socialist, have you looked at how New Zealand provides health care? What about gun laws there?

Don Pardo please let this man know what he’s won - TRUE capitalism (ie. unfettered free market) is, and would load to, anarchy

Seperate the economic model from the rest of life regulatios....less govt intervention, more market driven...more laissez-faire approach is a more successful way to go (in all aspects in my opinion)

Doesnt mean we shouldn't strive for a freer market, or at least make a more concerted effort to implement more free market principals

This thread has become what politics should be. Honest discussion, different points of view that both have backing of well thought out ideas based in facts. I wish the national discourse could go back to this instead of the conspiracy theory crap.

I don't disagree, and I wish people could have rational discourse. Instead we get "Pussy!" or "You're a racist!" when someone experiences an opposing view that causes some cognitive dissonance.
