Ochai likely earned himself 8.5 million more guaranteed dollars ( likely closer to 12-15 as most 4 and 5 year options of lotto guys are picked up ) by returning to school.
B12POY. 1st team AA. National Champ.
Guaranteed millions.
Helluva story.
Coach K had to be streamed in remotely to congratulate his players because he couldn't be bothered to attend in person like Self did. Happy to see Self out there with his guys but letting them have the stage. Just had two players in the Top 21 and didn't make it about him or KU.
I was glad Self was there too.
But remember lots of years where we hated on Cal for being in the green room.
I never hated on him for being there. He should be. I hated on him get in an interview and pimping it being the greatest day in program history.

Feels like such a weak draft, though.
First 3 picks were set in stone, but looking at those guys, most drafts you're thinking they go like 4-5-6 overall. Och seems like a nice plug-and-play get for a contending team in the 20's that is quite a bit closer to his ceiling than the lotto picks. CB has early second-round talent. The international players don't jump off the page--feels like the depth is missing that the 2021 draft also had on top of Tier 1 players at the top.
Great time for Och and CB to strike the iron. Jalen (and McCullar) had to be pretty close to staying in the draft.
Maybe from a star perspective, but overall I was impressed with how deep the draft was. Seemed like teams throughout the 1st round were getting values and dudes who can help their team.
Most recent NBA Drafts end up having somewhere between 3 and 6 guys who make an All Star team at some point in the future and it typically is 3+ years before those AS appearances begin to happen. I would be surprised if in 6 years there are less than 3 all stars in this draft.

Yeah, I suppose you're right in that we will have to see on that.
I guess with last year's draft (and any draft for that matter), the depth isn't truly known until you see them go out and play at least like 40 games. Cade, Mobley, Green were all rated very highly, though, for good reason. I'd have to think Suggs would have been a very large possibility of being #1 in 2022.

Yes.
And the whole notion that the coaching and competition at Kentucky was what was making these Top 10-25 recruits into NBA Draft picks.
Someone show me how many Ochai Agbajis that Kentucky has taken from where he started into a lottery pick.

And that's always been Bill's crowning achievement in response. Cole, Withey, Morris twins, Graham, etc., Ochai probably being the most impressive.
Better representation of development, IMO, but the AD, KAT, Wall, Bookers of the world will get the attention, and as Cal knew, do more to up the UK brand.

100% agree. UK has the better brand amongst future Top 10 recruits but KU has the better coach to improve a recruit's abilities and skills. I'll take that 10 out of 10 times. Watching that development over the course of their time at KU is what I enjoy the most in the college game.

Hubert is all class too. That is why I see Duke permanently diminshed. They filled a specific niche as pseudo scholar non threatening basketball players in the Bobby Knight tradition. Which is a shot fake.

ANd I would say 3 all stars is a weak class and 6 all stars is a good class.
I foresee this class as being in that 2-3 range.

Duke isn't going anywhere so long as Nike still exists. They are a brand that is loved by apparel consumers.

It's easy to let Och's success story completely overshadow CB's, but it's almost equally impressive that this kid became a 3 year player, 2nd best player on a natty team and a first round draft pick. Self is absurd.

Maybe this has already been discussed, but I check the internet for Christian Braun this morning (having not looked at anything NBA yesterday) and the top story is about his mom. I guess she made quite an impression.

"Braun was motivated that season by message board fodder after he’d committed to Kansas speculating that he’d redshirt as a freshman."

“Bro,” Agbaji said when asked about on-court Braun, “he’s a whole different guy. He’s like an asshole.”
