And the 2 players in my actual real life example are the equivalent of Lightfoot and Teahan. Not even the stars of the team, those guys cost more I would imagine.

Of course the market is different at each school and for different level of players.

How much do you think the KU guys got paid to work at Raisin' Canes the other day? My guess is a lot more than any of the actual employees made that day.

There is good money in NIL.
rumor is $15k each for Jalen and Braun for that work
I'd say that qualifies as "stupid money" by my definition.

Literally what prompted your question: "dealing with a show cause for Self is way worse than Self just sitting for a season."

Hey MICH, I have 15 gobbilydinks that I will sell you at a discount for $100 a piece. Deal?

It's within the realm of possibility that the NCAA and Self/KU could come to a joint agreement.

IF that were to happen, the lawyers and parties would know if settlement was imminent.
That would shock me. Self and his lawyers have put out the "I will fight any suspension" vibe since the beginning of this. But maybe the IARP is putting out a reasonable enough punishment that they are considering it, I don't know.
I don't know what is going on, but I do think that there are many scenarios where a one-year postseason ban is a deal that they might want to take and run with.

There is almost no precedent here and the IARP authority is very broad. At some point fighting for months or years in federal court over a 2-year show cause might be worse punishment than just taking a short suspension and getting it over with now that it keeps dragging out.
If they decide that a one year postseason ban for Self and Townsend is the punishment then both the coaches and the school should take that deal in a heartbeat, just to be done with it. Have Norm Roberts coach the team in the tourney next year and move forward.

To me, it would seem KT deserves a harsher punishment than Self.

It makes sense that KT would get a harsher punishment, but man it sure seems obvious that KU would love to make KT the sacrificial lamb and move forward.

KT would likely be willing to fall on that sword. He's old and kid's are relatively grown. He's nearing retirement anyway.

I just don't see a scenario where the NCAA settles for something less than some Bill skin.

It's sort of out of the NCAAs hands. If the review panel is truly independent and impartial.

Exactly.
