Och is the best and I can't believe I am saying that after the last 3 years.

CB might be the best at the rim, but he lacks that first step to get there in the first place.
Agreed. CB just needs to finish better. He has gotten there a lot but has missed an unreal amount of make-able shots at the rim. Next year, I suspect he will have a wide range of floaters and finishing skills.
Are you referencing some of last season? CB is 61% from 2 this year--granted, you have to consider wide open transition dunks.

He's vastly improved at the rim this season and I think it all has to do with how much stronger he is.
CB’s driving and finishing at the rim was great in noncon, but hasn’t happened as much in league play.

That’s a big part of why he’s scored below his average in every single league game.

Not that scouts and I care.

And now here we are, defending Dajuan for his intangibles.
If Dejuan is this bad when he's a senior, and is starting, then I feel.

Hopefully that's due to Remy's knee. But, I mean, to those saying that DaJuan is statistically bad - he's statistically better than his replacement.

Neither has been exceptional.

But yeah, between his knee, and the short leash treatment, who knows.

I’d be curious to see what happened if Self buried Juan on the bench after a bonehead play, like he does to all the other guards.

Or if he let other guards play through mistakes

I don't remember which game it was early in the season, but DaJuan was quite candid in the post game show. He said the other three guards are stronger and faster than he is, and that Self told him if he turns it over he won't play.

So he did have a short leash, and he earned the long one he has now. I want to see the other guards do that.

That's great he is shooting such a high percentage this year. It just seems that this year he has had an inordinate number of close shots roll of the rim that had a chance to go in. Maybe it is just because he is driving so much more than last year that the volume of them is high enough to be memorable. Why things stick in my head is always a mystery to me.

I agree with you that he has improved from last year. I suspect he will get even better next year as he continues to get stronger, gets some NBA feedback after the season and puts in a summer similar to what Agbaji did this past offseason. At least that is my hope for him.

I have also noticed more rim-outs lately, especially on his one handed floating bank shot.

Most everyone's stats are going to take a dip in conference from non-con. Except NPOY Ochai Agbaji apparently.

What we saw from Remy in the last game was encouraging. If we continue to get that version of Remy then he will be on the court more and will have better stats than what he has had so far in Big 12 play.

And maybe it is just that we have been in so many tight games that every bucket feels more important, making every miss more noticeable. There are a lot of intangibles that feed into it.

Braun has lots of room for growth and seems to be the type who wants to do the work necessary to continue to improve.

Yeah, that candid comment was cool to hear.

But it sucks that the only bar Self has for one guard is “just don’t turn it over,” while for everybody else it’s “if you airball one open shot like Juan does you’re delegated to the watching-Teahan’s-mustache-grow end of the bench”

It isn't like that for everyone else. It is 100% dependent on what the player has been told in practice, what their role is and what the other options are. Plenty of players under Self have been able to play their way through issues and it was usually because they were so much of a better option than their replacement.

Yea. I guess it’s just a fanboy musing to wonder how much chicken and egg there is to the short leash treatment.

And yeah some players get to play through issues.

But I wonder when Self has those “ok Hawkins knows the system better but maybe we need to get this Mario kid up to speed” kinda moments.

Remy doesn't have a short leash. He's given all of Remy Yesufu and Pettiford minutes this year.

You're just not happy with who he thinks makes the team the best, so you "need to see more minutes".

So. Much. Dumb.

My guess is that missing shots in games has very little to do with who plays and who doesn't.

Wiggins is a freak of nature athlete, former number one pick, who has been on the cusp of being an all star for many seasons. He had a really good year, and his overall game outside of just scoring has really improved. I dont think anyone will be too upset. Its not like when Shaq or Allen Iverson were like 40 and got the fan vote, when they probably shouldn't have even been in the league still
