Someone is selling shoes I that I want on EBay.
3 or so weeks ago I put in a best offer of $160. They came back with a $200 offer. I declined.
Last night I put in a $180 best offer. They came back with a $225 offer.
I messaged them and said that a few weeks ago they offered the shoes to me for $200.
They responded - that was a few weeks ago. If you want them they are $225 today.
Total dick move by him/her? Probably.
My response to him/her - If I didn't want to pay $200 for them a few weeks ago what makes you think I would want to pay $225 for them today?
No response from them. I canceled the offer.
Within 10 seconds of my cancelling the offer I completely forgot I bid for the shoes on StockX and I got an email from StockX saying someone had sold them to me for $160.
My guess is it isn't but I can't help but wonder if it is the same person who sold them.

So what is the moral of the story?
Two assholes could NOT make a deal on EBay because one person was a greedy fuck and two assholes COULD make a deal on StockX because one person realized getting $160 is better than holding on to something they would have gotten $0 for had they not sold them?

I dabble in buying and selling sporting goods, and musical instruments, on Craigslist.

“...or best offer” is typically at least assumed, but I’ve wanted to try selling something as “price firm.” Low ballers will be ridiculed”

Not sure if it’s efficacy as a sales strategy, but could still be fun.

“The asking price is stated as ‘$200, price firm, low ballers will be ridiculed.’ With disregard for this you offered $160 anyway, so the price for you now shall be $225...looser.”

I smell you.
Thing is I can typically tell if someone is eager to sell or not.
If they have 100s of items and all are overpriced compared to the market - then off course they are not too eager to sell.
Someone has a few items and they are competitive in terms of the market - then they often are willing to "bargain".
This person was spot on in terms of market price for the shoes but it seemed they were not willing to go any lower. Their loss, my gain.
Unless of course they find someone to pay $225 for them. Which they haven't in months.

as a buyer or a seller, you have to be patient. Get a number you're willing to ask, and a number you're willing to take, and stick to it until those number happen.

a few years back when I was in between chapters in life and was freeing up some cash, I had a vintage collectible musical instrument that I purchased for $160 a few years before that. Put it up on Craigslist for $200, was quickly offered $175, and said ok cool let's just make the sale happen.

Got the cash, got home, and already had several other offers in my inbox, many for the actual asking price.

Did a little homework, and within that few years, this particular instrument had appreciated to the $500+ range without me even researching the market first. Still feel dumb about that one.

another lesson in patience:

so I put up a fly rod for $260 (obo implied). My bottom price in my mind was $200. not much action for a few weeks, then randomly offered $175. I said at least somebody offered something, and sold it.

forgot to take the posting down right away, and totally randomly the next day, another offer of $225. Shoulda been patient.

but let's keep this thread on topic!

I think if I had a son, John Paul would be on my list of short names.

if anyone asked if it was like some Catholic thing, I would then get the pleasure of clarifying, actually he's named after the bass player from Led Zeppelin.

My buddy did name his kid John Paul. He and his wife are Polish/Catholic and JPII was pope at the time. They call the kid, now about 30, JP.

Back in the 80s I had another buddy who's brother and his wife named their twins after the two teams in the stuporbowl.
Denver and Dallas.

Kenny Mc.
I don't expect anyone to understand.

I think I have mentioned that my Aunt had a student who's name was Female.
I think she pronounced it Fem A Lee but it may have been Fa Mal Lee.

You may know KFC. You may know Luosifen (stinky sour snail noodles). But you may have never imagined KFC will sell Luosifen someday.

Speaking of fast food mistakes.

Is the Big Mac not the most overrated "sandwich" in the world?

WTF? The meat is minimal. Might as well not even bother putting meat on/in the sandwich.
You have a bun. A top bun and a bottom bun. WTF do you need the bread in the middle for? Plus - Sesame seeds? Why do I need or want sesame seeds for?
"Special sauce"? More like diarrhea sauce.
Lettuce? Who needs nor really wants leafs with their meat? I'll order a salad if I want to eat leafs.

Meanwhile, I'm the guy who will order a steak egg and cheese bagel and tell them to hold the egg and cheese.

No good answer to your question.

On another note....
Not sue if I have ever posted about him on this site but he's my buddy's son.
X Games Champ and Olympian.

This was brutal! The crazy thing is if you "scroll" to the photo after the video - that's him smiling as if nothing happened to him.

Good news is....

Today's edition of wtf is wrong with people.

I have an old friend (friend for close to 40 years) who was in a serious relationship with a well known Chicago restauranteur. He died recently.
Last night I noticed my phone ringing but didn't pick it up because she is total drama and I just didn't feel like talking with her.
She left the following message.......

"Hey ______ It's Brandi. Rich's girlfriend. I'm sorry that I asked you for a job. Um, I know you didn't answer me (now she starts crying) I'm um at a loss for words. I miss him every second of every day. I fought for his life. And um I know I heard you don't like me and I'm sorry. I didn't mean to ask you for an insurance job or anything you do to help me when Rich passed away. Maybe I was out of line. Um but just know I'm apologizing and know that Richie loved you. I mean he had your back in college, through the girlfriend thing and whatever else you - you guys were brothers. You didn't see each other for so long and I apologize if I, If I was rude in any manner to you. I'm not asking you for anything now. Just know I'm hurting huge. I miss the shit out out of this guy. He was the biggest wise ass and a self made millionaire like you and I don't even know what tomorrow brings. All I do is turn over in my bed and he always would say come get me and cuddle and I'm lost. And um I'm lost and I'm sorry if I put you out asking for a job - that was disrespectful. Just know that Richie loved you and I'm sorry. I'm a big hot mess every single day. Anyway. Good bye".

Ok....
A) I don't not like her. I do like her. In very small doses.
B) I'm not in the insurance business and I don't recall her ever asking me for a job.
C) Richie didn't love me because..... He didn't know me other than our being introduced once.
D) Richie didn't have my back in college because Richie and I didn't go to college together.
E) I am not a "self made" millionaire.
F) Richie and I were not "brothers" in any way, shape, form.

I assumed she called me thinking I was a different person with the same first name so I texted her this morning and told her that I think she had called me by mistake.
I have a read "receipt" from the text so I know she read it.
So..... wouldn't you think maybe she would confirm that she called the wrong person - or that she was on crack or some other drug and actually thought Rich loved me, we were "brothers", and we went to college together?
Nope. Nothing.
