Yeah, it’s just backup 5 minutes, and can largely be applied as matchups warrant.

If it’s the rare elite D1 big, gonna need a lot out of Dave either way.

But man, I still go back to the tournament games, where Mitch just got backed all the way up as the opposing big just moved him outta the way and scored at will.

Jalen can’t be worse than that. And he also brings the benefit of that same opposing big having to chase him as he gets the bored and to the other end in 3 dribbles.

So who plays more minutes at the 5 this year Jalen or Mitch/Clemence?

It’s like, under 12 timeout, Dave comes out

Either

Mitch comes in, and maybe gets a bucket or two cuz we’re still feeding the post

Or,

Jalen slides over, guards come in, and we run the other team’s second unit out the gym.

dunno

i’d have to go look at the matchups, and even then i think it’ll largely depend on who is most productive on any given night, predictive metrics aside

Dave's history says he will play about 25 minutes/game this season. So that is 10-15 minutes a game--that's not insignificant at all and encompasses all of Mitch's minutes.

Or Mitch teaches Clemence everything he knows as fast as he can, and in 2 months it's Clemence coming in and when Dave goes out we can go Remy/Och/CB/Jalen/Clemence

Or Harris instead of Remy.

That’s true.

It’s a matter of whether we wanna play more post sets once Dave is out, or whether we wanna spread the floor and speed things up

Clemence is a whole new look yet - that pick and pop big or whatever

Playing fast starts on defense.

Clemence puts on some lbs and comes back next season as a possible starter.

Yea.

Which is why you want your 5 to be more mobile, and be able to start the break himself, rather than an old school big who collects and has to get it to a guard

among other factors

The fastest way to play is to not play any defense.

Sure. But you've still got to get stops and get defensive rebounds.

My philosophy if i were Self would be that whenever Dave goes out CB/Och/Jalen are all 3 on the court with 1 small guard and then Mitch (maybe Clemence soon) because Och CB and Jalen all have size/strength and are good rebounding guards/wings....then whenever Dave is on the court there is more ability to be versatile and have 2 of the small guards in at the same time as well as the normal lineup with remy or harris and CB/Och/Jalen alongside him.

I mean, I agree that defense is a good way to play fast, but we're debating Mitch, Jalen, and ZC -- none of which are elite, lockdown defenders?? There's, like, no difference between Mitch and Jalen's defensive ability, so let's play the faster guy.

Is this what yall are talking about with Illy?
