F the NCAA
Re: F the NCAA
And yeah, I hope it’s not inappropriate to discuss pols on the sports bored when the pols directly address the sports.
But yeah, regarding the trans topic, perhaps that’s best kept on the nsfw bored.

Re: F the NCAA
I think this belongs here. Nothing like a lunchtime read that gets your blood boiling:
https://theathletic.com/2585750/2021/05 ... sidelines/The region’s governing body, Section 6 of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA), ruled her ineligible because, while COVID-19 indefinitely paused winter sports here, she played at a Florida school for two months. When she returned to Holland in February, Section 6 executive director Mark DiFilippo determined her transfer was an eligibility violation, banning her from basketball and also soccer in the fall.
Given information DiFilippo had at the time and applying it to the rule as written, the assessment was fair. But then, before ruling on a hardship appeal of his original decision, DiFilippo was told in a conference call with Holland athletics director Matt Adams and Kierra’s father, Jason Kline, that she had moved to Florida because, about one year earlier, in January 2020, she had been sexually assaulted by a male student on a school bus. There were witnesses. The case was adjudicated. The boy was found guilty of multiple charges and suspended from school for 40 days. Jason Kline said a disbelieving DiFilippo responded by repeatedly asking why Kierra was returning to Holland if she truly had been traumatized. DiFilippo also received a letter from Holland High superintendent Cathy Fabiatos, who wrote that she believed Kierra’s “health and safety would be put at risk” if she couldn’t play.
NYSPHSAA bylaws allow hardship waivers for “safety, mental health, personal relationships and other circumstances.” But even with the knowledge of what had happened to Kierra, DiFilippo denied an appeal of his earlier decision. Then, the eight-member Section 6 executive committee (of which DiFilippo is a member) also denied a hardship appeal despite being briefed about what happened to Kierra.
Re: F the NCAA
Here is an excellent example of why the NCAA needs to pull its head out of its ass and fix the problem itself before someone fixes it - very badly - for them.

This would be disastrous for college basketball. Two U.S. Senators proposed new legislation Thursday that would legally designate college athletes at public schools as employees of their schools and provide them the right to collectively bargain.
Re: F the NCAA
big time college athletics is already too far down the $#!thole. there is no coming back. the worst they can do now is just make the sandwich $#!ttier.
at least i can remember when it used to be awesome. people under a certain age have no recollection of its' former awesomeness.

No sleep lost by me, but sometimes I wonder why MICH and a handful of other posters here even watch sports or spend time on a sports message board. I mean, if you hate it so much, why bother?
Re: F the NCAA
be fair.
MICH hates EVERYTHING.

Except his great state.
That tried to kidnap their governor, that has had some of the worst progress with Covid and that their weather sucks 10 months out of the year.

you can show where you're from in the state by pointing to it on your hand though. So there's that.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Thu May 27, 2021 1:55 pm Except his great state.

Why are you holding one hand over the other all goofy like that?
Oh, you’re a yooper.

Re: F the NCAA
I liked it better before the early entry NBA rule. And before the emphasis on calling fouls physical defending. And before the addition of more teams in the tournament.
I still like it ( obviously, I have 13k posts ) but the transfers, one and dones and "woe is me athletes are being screwed", makes me like it less.

Re: F the NCAA
BWW Chad watches sportscenter some, and reads the front page articles. He knows many of the players who are up for the Naismith and knows the top players on the top teams. When the tournament rolls around, you bet hes tweeting about his faves.
Your GMs and NBA scouts, as much as you'd like to think otherwise, are influenced by the feel/surge of a players stock during the college season, especially when it comes to those toss ups after your lotto picks.
For those in BWW Chad's corner, ie it's all about the dollar bills, college, while paying you in benefits, still serves as a good venue to launch your professional career if you dont have a solid path to a guaranteed first round pick.

“paying you in benefits?”
sounds impermissible.

Re: F the NCAA
…a unanimous court ruled that the NCAA rules are not reasonably necessary to distinguish between college and professional sports.
The NCAA "seeks immunity from the normal operation of the antitrust laws," Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote for the court. But added that the court declines this request because "this suit involves admitted horizontal price fixing in a market where the defendants exercise monopoly control."
Re: F the NCAA
Makes me happy that our ncaa case has not been ruled on. I don't know how they can throw the book at use when their book is being called a legal joke by the Supreme Court.
Re: F the NCAA
I wonder if they would have used this strategy 5 or 10 years ago. I am guessing they saw the cracks in the foundation getting bigger. Not sure any college would have used this strategy 5 or 10 years ago. I hope it works out with no real punishment for KU.
Re: F the NCAA
No, I don’t think anyone would have. It used to be conventional wisdom that cooperating was the ticket. MU’s case changed that.nu_bronco wrote: ↑Mon Jun 21, 2021 12:12 pmI wonder if they would have used this strategy 5 or 10 years ago. I am guessing they saw the cracks in the foundation getting bigger. I like the "we investigated ourselves and were pretty impressed" strategy.

Yay.
PDub will soon enough be as interested in college sports as BWW Chad.
Ironic.
