Thanks B2L, not gonna lie, I'm pretty scared about my home. If their predictions are near to being right, they're usually not that close but they've been calling this for a Tampa landfall pretty much since they declared it a hurricane, and I'm a little south of there where the storm surge is supposed to be the worst.

I'm going 7 miles from the coast to my daughter's on the east side of Sarasota, where we'll worry more about the wind, and being without power for a while.

Have the Waffle Houses closed yet?
I should have thought of that before.

At the end of the day, it’s just stuff. Not trying to be simplistic or patronizing at all.

You left and took what you thought you needed to. That’s what matters.

I lived on Oahu when Hurricane Iwa hit in the early 80s. Dozens of cars were parked under trees in the hopes they’d be totaled by the storm. The storm did work, and it was a category 1. These storms today are a different animal.

Maybe it’s time we let bugs cut Florida off as he did in one of his cartoons.

I have no idea if this is a thing but my cousin told me you can put stuff you can't take but don't want to lose in your dishwasher and it will keep the water out.

Ok randy. :o  :? ;) :D

My first thought after reading that (what 99 posted) is/was what about a washing machine or dryer - so I took a minute to do some research.

Turns out, NO! It's NOT brilliant.

Damn, I went half randy and posted bullshit.

At least I was smart enough to preface it.

No no no! Don't give yourself a damn and say you went half randy. Give yourself a lot of credit that you were were smart enough to preface it.
Like Trad, when I first read what you posted, I sort of thought the same thing - "that’s brilliant" but I had SOME (VERY minimal) doubt. Then, like I said, I questioned/wondered what about a washing machine and dryer, so I did a little research on the dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, options.

Back to Shirley.
Any updates?

The storm center moving the Sarasota way may mean Shirley is in its path. Hoping not

Yeah, but you got a . :o  :? ;) :D  and he didn't.

Getting back to the important thing. Seems the worst of it is supposed to hit after dark. That's got to make things more difficult. The people in western Florida have my good/hopeful (I'm not a prayer) thoughts.

My granddaughter is hunkering down in Lakeland at her college roommates parents home. ( Forty miles east of Tampa, elevation 197 ft above sea level.)I guess they mostly have to be concerned with wind/flood possibilities.

The first time I’ve seen Tropicana Field and thought I’d like to watch a baseball game there (instead of this).
