so the reason you enjoy college hoops is The Rules?

One big reason I enjoy college hoops is because it is college hoops and not professional.

If there's a pro league for younger kids I'll just spend more of my time watching the big leagues.

So the real question then is, do prefer Parmesan garlic, or the mango habanero?

Mango habanero.

Who plays for KU this year?
Didnt they sign that one guy away from Kentucky?
Dunno his name but hes going to the big leagues for sure. He will be a hit for KUs cap but he will be worth it.

They should trade their big guy though, uh, Zach or Jack or something, for a better wing.

Anyways, how about those Lakers?

I understand your stance PDub. My dad is sorta the same.

...but it's not about what the fans want/like. It is about what is fair/equitable to the players, and how powerful and broad "rules" are allowed to be.

Hopefully in the end the change that's coming ends up being a net gain for both sides.

The moment a KU player signs a million dollar deal with a shoe company is the moment I start watching NBA on TNT instead of big Monday.

Ill watch the KC Phogushers come tourney time.

The good ones have already been doing that. Just under the table and for less money.

And breaking the rules in doing so.
And rightfully should be punished equally across the entirety of the NCAA.
But that's not happening.

Work with the nba to open the draft to younger players. Expand the G League--get more players to enter who are interested in just the money. Minimize sponsorship and advertising dollars in the NCAA. I'll pay extra to watch the streams. Keep the experience of college athletics.

I know it won't happen.
I think it'll fade.

And I know people here dont think itll make a difference.
But that'll be it for me.

Marcus Garrett has 37k Instagram followers.

He could make money off that.

But that would somehow be an impermissible benefit, some unfair competitive advantage, and ruin the on-court product for fans.

Wasn't there a kicker/punter a view years ago who made YouTube videos and hit the threshold of subscribers to monetize the channel? NCAA basically told him he had to stop making videos, completely unrelated to football or his school, or he wouldn't be able to play anymore.

Edit...Yup

But why is your definition of college hoops "guys who don't get paid to play" and not "guys who attend a certain university"? They're still college athletes on college teams representing colleges aren't they?

I do not care at all what the players income level is when I watch them. My parent's taught me that another person's income level is generally not my business.

I like college athletics in theory because they are playing for their school and not for money.

Odd for a lot of you but that's why I was a fan growing up in Lawrence. Heart of the game.

Whenever status quos are challenged, the traditionalists don’t wanna see it.

But when the Supreme Court is issuing unanimous verdicts against the ncaa rules, I think it’s safe to say the tides really are turning.

But this ruling is narrow. It basically says certain ncaa rules aren’t allowed. Is the rule by so narrow though that there really won’t be any substantive changes? Or does this set the stage for more challenges yet? What does this change?

Maybe you would be better off following high school sports? But then you'll have to deal with the same stuff happening at the Oak Hills, Sierra Canyons, Montverdes of the country. Better stick the public schools. How's Dodge City looking this year?

You can go back to the days with Phog on the bench, do you really believe kids were coming in from all over the country, and other countries, with the attitude of "I can't wait to play my heart out and represent this university that up until a few months ago I had absolutely no connection to."?

The dam has broke.

You don't need to look at the 9-0 decision to see it, more important is looking at the public reaction today.

I definitely watch ( and will watch more ) high school sports in my community.

Still bummed with the inevitable shitification of college athletics.

Reminds me of Crimes and Misdemeanors: we prospered. And the shittification was fully on display for some time. But the universe is a dark and indifferent place we can fill with love and enjoyment if we check our attitudes and search for larger meaning.

Me too.

That's also why I'm a KU fan...I feel a connection. Otherwise I'd just cheer for the team with the coolest uniforms or style of play.

I don't watch AAA baseball, G league, or arena football.

And the theory that none of that will suffer with players being sponsored and paid by brands and possibly getting contracts from schools doesnt fly with me.

For me it'll be when a player says he chose KU because the contracts they set up for him with Laird Noller and Henry Ts were better than other schools.
