A new plug-in hybrid off-road pickup being developed in the U.K. will be available in a version that can travel 7,000 kilometers, or 4,350 miles between fill-ups.
The Fering Pioneer is a 4x4 series hybrid driven by a pair of electric motors that draw power from either a small battery pack that's good for 50 miles of all-electric driving, or an 800 cc three-cylinder diesel generator that allows it to get 42 mpg and provide off-the-grid power for equipment...

Re: Automobiles
just read that ford has a “partnership” with Rivian (and VW) fwiw
saw that when looking for this story:
https://www.nature.org/en-us/newsroom/r ... e%20change.
Rivian and The Nature Conservancy Collaborate to Keep Adventure Wild
Electric vehicle maker Rivian and global conservation group The Nature Conservancy (TNC) today announced a collaboration dedicated to preserving biodiversity and fighting climate change. This partnership leverages the capabilities of both organizations, providing valuable resources and public education opportunities while creating new avenues for responsible access to natural spaces.
As part of the relationship, Rivian will provide TNC with vehicles to use at its preserves—specifically at sites in California, Wyoming, Oklahoma, and Florida. Over the coming months, the organizations will explore opportunities to further electrify the nonprofit’s fleet of vehicles used on preserves TNC manages across the United States. Rivian vehicles are inherently quieter than conventional trucks, equipped for the most challenging off-road conditions, and produce no tailpipe emissions, providing unique benefits and research possibilities for sensitive ecological areas. TNC will share data collected to help enhance the development of new off-the-beaten-path driver experiences...

I’ve prob shared this before, but:
“In heaven, the cops are British, the cars are German, the cooks are French, and the women are Italian. In hell, the cops are German, the cars are French, the cooks are British, and the women are Italian”
I thought that joke had the cars are British but it prob works better that way

Re: Automobiles
This is a question probably for Plano since he's a car/boat guy, but why does Audi and other German cars put those damn headlight spray nozzles on the front bumper? They are annoying and always fail, then all your windshield washer fluid drains out. I've had both the drivers and passenger sides replaced in the last year, under my warranty, but my deductible is still $100. Just annoying, never understood their purpose.

Ummmm...to clean the gunk off of the headlights?shindig wrote: ↑Sat Sep 18, 2021 8:58 am This is a question probably for Plano since he's a car/boat guy, but why does Audi and other German cars put those damn headlight spray nozzles on the front bumper? I never had an issue with them failing.

the more "features" the more likely it is to break. I miss the simpler cars that you could basically climb in the engine and actually work on shit
Just Ledoux it
Re: Automobiles
All it does is spray on them, there's no wiper. Most of the spray ends up on the hood...lol.Overlander wrote: ↑Sat Sep 18, 2021 9:34 amUmmmm...to clean the gunk off of the headlights?shindig wrote: ↑Sat Sep 18, 2021 8:58 am This is a question probably for Plano since he's a car/boat guy, but why does Audi and other German cars put those damn headlight spray nozzles on the front bumper? Yeah, you typically won't see wipers on a poly surface.shindig wrote: ↑Sat Sep 18, 2021 10:55 amAll it does is spray on them, there's no wiper. They definitely clean more than nothing.
The only time I ever had spray on the hood was at low/no speed

Re: Automobiles
Washer fluid also has ice-melting properties, and I've found the headlight-spray things useful in the winter.

well...it was better when you didn't need a goddamn Decoder and a computer science degree to reset your engine when all you thats actually wrong is a goddamn blown fuse or O2 sensor.

also, as long as I'm going full old man.
never once, not one time, have I ever thought, man I wish I could spray off my headlights right now...no way can that wait until I get to a hose.

Re: Automobiles
Yeah. I googled and I guess it's a requirement to have those spray headlight nozels in Germany, so when they ship them to the US, its standard. Guessing all Audis, Mercedes and BMW's have them. I've only owned Audis as far as German cars. Some US cars might have them as well.

I just want a heated steering wheeling. I know, it's not necessary, but after driving a buddies Lexus last winter, it's nice . Oh and keyless start .Overlander wrote: ↑Sat Sep 18, 2021 5:32 pmMy wife's Volvo XC 40 has them....heatedshindig wrote: ↑Sat Sep 18, 2021 5:24 pmYeah.
