Based on your first selection I cant begin to take the rest of your post seriously. Steph curry? Over the greatest point guard of all time? Seriously?pdub wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 10:48 am Give me:
Steph ( sorry Magic - Steph has solid handles and vision and is one of, if not the best, shooter of all time, and LeBron can fill your role too )
MJ ( duh )
LeBron ( can defend positions 1-4, respectable 3 point %, can run point )
Durant ( when he wants to be, is a good defender, great shooter )
Wilt

Re: This Should Be Good.....
Steph can distribute very well but he may play off the ball a lot of the time with LeBron running point.
Magic shot 30% from 3.
Curry has the longest range/quickest release and expands the floor -- Curry is 44% from 3 for his career.

Say what you want. Steph isnt in the same league as magic. Id put theoretical money on my team in our theoretical matchup.

Speaking of discussions...was driving back from a doctors appointment and the local guys were debating if Bill Russel was overrated and should he be ranked at #4? I didn't realize that he never avg over 20 a game during his career. Of course playing for those stacked Celtics team his main job was rebounding and blocking shots that started fast breaks.

With the three point line where it is now and today’s rules, I’d bet all my theoretical money on my team.
Magic played in a watered down league before MJ really got things where they are. Notice I didn’t list Steph in my top 10 greatest—I admit Magic is better. But LeBron can do a lot of the things Magic could. He’s a better Magic actually. But no one can shoot like Curry.
If we are comparing careers, it’s Magic, no doubt. If we get a player peak season, give me supernova 2016 MVP Curry - ( 30.1 PPG, 50.4% FG, 45.4% 3FG, 6.7 APG - that's a 31.5 PER, Magic never got above 27, Jordan's best was 31.7 )
Re: This Should Be Good.....
Yes I'd take MJ too.TDub wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 9:05 am You pick one person to win you a title, who are you taking? I take Michael every single time.
If i put together the best functional 5 player team and Im not sure Lebrons on it. Theres a lot of options but i think you go something like
Magic
Michael
Larry
Duncan
Wilt or Shaq
I'm fine with your team except lebron is exactly like magic only better, so I'd have lebron as the PG.

No shot clock for Russell either right (or at least some of his seasons)?holidaysmore wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 3:48 pm Speaking of discussions...was driving back from a doctors appointment and the local guys were debating if Bill Russel was overrated and should he be ranked at #4? I wonder, though, if the 92 Bulls are really the best team of all time.
Peak Jordan is hard to pass up.

Relative to their competition probably.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 4:23 pm I wonder, though, if the 92 Bulls are really the best team of all time.

The game has changed so much that I think they'd have their hands full with the GS team.
I was surprised to see some stats that show pace was actually faster back then? Maybe I mistakenly heard that though.

Style of plays stuff: 2017 GS would definitely have their own trouble in the 90's. Current NBA is not as good as it was 5-10 years ago. Especially the 80's: scores in the 130's and 140's were quite common.IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 4:27 pmRelative to their competition probably.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 4:23 pm I wonder, though, if the 92 Bulls are really the best team of all time.

And, I'll still probably stick with 96 Bulls as best b/c of the Playoffs. Just ridiculous.
Re: This Should Be Good.....
Assuming you put Jordan on Steph and Pippen on Durant...who is guarding Klay?
Klay guards Jordan.
Durant guards Pippen.
Draymond guards Rodman or Horace Grant ( and definitely rotates on Jordan ).
But on the reverse side - who's got Klay?

BJ the first 3-peat. Kerr the second one. Both backup PG's.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 4:55 pm my memory isn't as solid as some, but where are BJ Armstrong and Steve Kerr?
BJ was better in the role, and later an All-Star. Kerr had the bigger moment.
Kerr now a spokesman for China and coaches basketball on the side.

ok, but on these hypothetical teams, what are the rosters?CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 4:59 pmBJ the first 3-peat. Kerr the second one. Both backup PG's.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 4:55 pm my memory isn't as solid as some, but where are BJ Armstrong and Steve Kerr?

GS with Steph, Clay, Draymond, KD, and Paschall? Wiggs? Looney?
Bulls with MJ, Pip, Rodman, Harper, and Grant? Kukoc? Longley? Kerr?

Grant was 1st 3-peat only.
I really like the Harp, Mike, Pip, Kukoc, Worm lineup. Lacked beef but the other 4 more than picked up for Kukoc's slack on D.

I think we were comparing actual teams in their best years. Not a combination of years with mix and match rosters.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 5:03 pmok, but on these hypothetical teams, what are the rosters?CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 4:59 pmBJ the first 3-peat.
