CrimsonNBlue wrote: Mon Sep 12, 2022 9:15 am Top of my head, last non-QB MVP: Peterson?

WR/TE has never won. It will take someone getting 2,000+ minimum and the media wanting to be a little cute.
Think so. Around 2010 it shifted to solely a QB award outside of Peterson's 2,200 yard season or whatever it was.
Which makes it kinda boring, imo, even though QB is probably almost always the right call under the current rules which allow for record-breaking passing yards.

It's now going to take a RB or WR to break an NFL record. And then there's always the argument that maybe Aaron Donald should be in consideration, but I don't ever see a defensive guy breaking through.
Defensive guys have their own award exclusive to them to win so it doesn't bug me that they get left out of most serious MVP discussions. An individual defensive player would have to a season never before seen to have the type of impact on a team as what MVP QBs have.

Well I’d say it’s the same for offensive players as there is an OPOY separate from MVP, but I generally agree that it would take something extraordinary before I’d argue for a defensive player over a QB.

Only 2 times a defensive player won MVP....
1971 Page didn't exactly have incredible stats. 14 games, 109 tackles, 9 sacks, 3 fumble recoveries, 2 safeties.
Hadl could have ben considered but other than him, no one had a stand out type of season.

1986 L.T. had 105 tackles, 20.5 sacks (NFL record at the time), 5 pass deflections, 2 forced fumbles.
Dickerson rushed for 1821 yards but only had 11TD.
Marino threw for 4746 yards with 44 TD.

Page literally ate people. I would call that extraordinary.

I like Dak, and think he's really good. Wish he'd get out of being on Jerry's team.

Page was doubled and hit after the whistle with clubs practically. I think he was the best I have ever seen.

Russell Wilson is about 80% of what he used to be. Seattle looks like they took his "I want to be on a team that can win" personally.

Interesting. Last night after the game he was singing a different tune. I didn't watch the game, did Russ try and convince him to go for it on 4th Down?

He was being somewhat sarcastic. Followed that up with "obviously if we knew we'd miss it then we'd have gone for it". He said they got to their spot and that if they'd have been a yard further away they'd have gone for it.
