Was thinking about this

but…

did this thread just go all-1st team
Bill Self KU?!

Hypothetically, of course. But also objectively, in terms of hardware and measurable measurables:

CPOY, 1st team all-American, one of 3 Self doods to average 20ppg, elite rebounder too, great hairdo, serviceable ink, starter on a natty, co-“shoulda been MOP” award (for real natty game high scorer in the natty along with DMac!), not to mention a natty.

Also we’ve discussed these sort of discussions but I’m counting natty, and particularly “starter on a natty,” as something objectively measurable.

Tho to be fair, the “elite rebounder” credential might be something more subjective.

But not the hair.

Nor the ink.

Jalen had a really good year. And career.. Not gonna hate on him. Won a title as a starter. Was arguably the player of the year as "the guy"

But here is his competition of forwards hes competing against at the 3/4 spot to be considered 1st team

Thomas Robinson
Wayne simien
Marcus Morris
Ochai agbaji
Darrel arthur
Brandon rush
Svi
Josh Jackson
Wiggins
Xavier Henry
Dedrick lawson
Perry Ellis

yea, don't disagree.

but, in terms of hardware, like some hypothetical objective, as paradoxical as that sounds, Jalen beats pretty much all those dudes.

The couple who might compete - again, in terms of measurable accolades - share starting spots on this hypothetical 1st team.

Something like, Jalen and...

TRob (CPOY, 1AA, elite ink, starter on national runner up)
Och (CPOY, 1AA, ink, Won't The Real Slim MOP Please Stand Up)
BIFM (CPOY, POY, ink, Hair with a capital H, 20ppg club, Bitch I'm Frank Mason)
maybe...Devonte? (CPOY, 1AA, ink, hair, starter on a Final Four)
Or maybe Wayne? CPOY, 1AA, 20ppg club, prob did some other shit he could get credit for before 2003 when KU got a real coach)

...who can best that?

Hi I’m a consensus 1st team AA who also has a 2nd team AA, have one of the biggest steals and shots in Selfs tenure, have won a title and am MICHs favorite.

yea, good call, Sherron is pretty decorated too.

so let's go:

BIFM
Sherron
Och
Jalen
TRob

but I guess you could debate whether Devonte's 1AA and CPOY and FF starter is worth more than Sherron's 2AA then 1AA plus reserve on a natty.

or, for that matter, whether Dok's 2AA/CPOY/DPOY/FF starter is worth more than what Jalen or TRob did.

and so on...

Dok was robbed.
He was going to wreck the NCAA tournament with 18 PPG, 11 RPG, 3 BPG on 75% FG, highlighted by a 29, 12, 4 against Gonzaga in the championship.

Of note here are his last 5 games:

23 points, 19 rebounds, 3 blocks, 11-13 FG.
19 points, 16 rebounds, 3 blocks, 6-7 FG, 7-8 FT.
6 points, 9 rebounds, 0 blocks, 2-4 FG - 20 minutes and injured his ankle.

Let's hope his ankle is OK.
Oh.

31 points, 14 rebounds, 5 blocks, 13-14 FG.
15 points, 11 rebounds, 1 block, 6-9 FG.

would you objectively put Dok over Jalen? or any of the others?

if we had to hypothetically identify 5...

What are the measurements?
If it’s simply just hardware, you can’t.
Jalen wins.
