If I am not mistaken, two #1 seeds, three #2 seeds, and three #3 seeds are from West of the Mississippi.

2005 was my freshman year. We had an unofficial contest in the dorms to see who could pick the biggest upset.

19yo me decided to be an even younger version of my usual smartass self and say, "if the contest is to pick the biggest upset, then fuck it, I'm picking Bucknell."

been paranoid about brackets ever since.

I agree.

I'm also concerned with the health of the sport. And the health of the sport is not served by an incentive structure that discourages good teams from playing cool non-con games, and encourages good teams to play Directional Tech A&M 20 times between 11/1 and 12/31.

Yeah, if I'm KU, which I'm not, but I would say screw playing Kentucky, Duke, Creighton and all of those teams. But they won't do that.

But if you're going to incentivize playing weak teams and "lose close" then do it. But that make college basketball a far worse product.

How did anyone not in the room realize how fucked this whole thing was?

too bad the talking heads had their "kid gloves" on when questioning the head of the committee. i guess they didn't want to offend anybody.

One of the few times most of the nation and analysts agree that this was a fucked bracket and that KU got screwed. how often does that happen? pretty rare that I feel we get this kind of press about seeding.

so often what looks unfair turns out to be easy. this may be a case in point, the bracket vaporizes. i thought texas was the best b12 team at season's close. still, ku got jobbed on paper. but i suspect it will work itself out in the end. that's usually the case.

KU didn't get hosed because of their non-con. They got hosed because they had losses of 14, 15, 16, 20 and 23.

i am fine with alabama be the #1 overall. we should have been the #2 overall.

i am perfectly fine with the bracket we landed in. and with our path.

But that hasn't been mentioned before as part of the process - bad beatdowns to good teams.

https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/c ... 176333002/

"More emphasis is put on strength of schedule, game location, scoring margin, net offensive and defensive efficiency and quality of wins and losses. What time of year you beat a team won't be factored into the NET. There's also a cap of 10 points for winning margin to prevent rankings from encouraging teams to run up the score."

I'm not fine with Alabama being the number 1 overall as they have, at best, a guy starring for them who should have been suspended for several games this season, or, at worst, a guy who should be going to prison and off the team.

Except, KU did get hosed by its schedule (because, in some fucked-up way, the committee dude out and out SAID that 15-2 Q1/2 is better than 21-7).

Maybe it will keep the Q4 opponents off of our non-con schedules in future seasons.
