What? One guy spent a lifetime building skills and a reputation needed to secure a job. One guy played basketball really well in High school and on the AAU circuit. Qualifications arent comparable.


Also, one guy went to college and played basketball....it gave him the opportunity to be exposed to the game and people that he chose to make his career.

In terms of how the free market values either though, the free market isn’t as worried about whether someone played AAU ball in high school. The market is worried about what economic value that person has right now.

And college sports is of those anomalies of the Merican economy for which it’s expected, even required, that those guys aren’t allowed to pursue what the free market will offer.

I don’t think anyone’s trying to reinvent the wheel here in terms of college ball player markets, so much as just trying to bring legitimacy the market as it has operated all along.

I don't want KU (itself) paying players.

But i do think if Zion types can have a weekly podcast that generates them income then i don't understand why that should be legal to fall under the NCAAs rules. Their power doesn't need to be that far reaching. That has nothing to do with them.

In a perfect world that wouldn't be how it works. I think the school should be seperate from all of this. The school should not help facilitate any of these activities or be involved in players profiting from their NIL.

Coaches making millions a year. ADs making millions a year.

The players who supply the actual product that generates revenue are told free college is all they are allowed to get. Even if the income they could get has NOTHING to do with the NCAA or the school they attend.

March madness can just be the TBT. Thats just as successful right?

We dont need coaches or schools and their associated fanbases....just the players....televise pick up at Venice Beach and Ruckers and call it gravy. They can make 100% (minus set up fees and officials pay) of the generated profit.

That's not what i am saying....but without the players there is nothing.

And millions of public money spent on investigations, arrests, prosecutions, trials, and potential incarcerations over something that would not exist but for the Rules.

Isn’t there some case study about how economic prohibition doesn’t actually prevent the undesired markets, so much as create black markets.

But that's just another example of painting it black or white (no pun intended). They should all share in it, and fairly.

But, the level of player is absolutely a difference maker. If KU has D3 talent, the money and exposure is not nearly the same level, which could mean we don't see it. Not only do I think we can keep CBB, I think we can make it a lot better. Yesterday was another big moment in where we stop pretending this is an amateur sport.

The overseas route is available, as is G league. There are routes available if the players feel slighted. Sure, they come with less visibility, marketing, and usual end the career but...its there. It worked for Lamelo.

True and maybe some older people will stop watching...but i don't think younger generations and current or future students will stop watching because Joel Embiid gets money for doing a weekly podcast. In fact, that may actually grow the fan base.

I mean Logan Paul just made millions letting Floyd Mayweather punch him in the face for 30min and it wasn't because of all the old heads buying the PPV.
