Mitch McConnell tells U.S. to ‘wake up’ to threat of Russia on Ukraine war anniversary

The Senate Republican leader pushed back against calls from within his own party to pare back U.S. funding in support of Ukraine.

...“America and our friends need to finish waking up from our holiday from history, welcome Finland and Sweden into NATO by this summer, and make significant investments in military modernization and our defense-industrial capacities that are commensurate with the major challenges we face,” McConnell said in a statement, shortly before appearing alongside President Sauli Niinisto in Helsinki to support Finland’s bid to join NATO.

The message marked a stark contrast to the one pushed by former president Donald Trump and some congressional Republicans, who criticized President Biden’s trip to Kyiv earlier this week and have called for ending or slowing aid to Ukraine. In a tweet, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga), a hard-right ally of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and one of dozens of House Republicans to vote against Ukraine aid in May, called Biden’s trip “insulting” and proof that he “chose Ukraine over America.”

“If Putin were given a green light to destabilize Europe, invading and killing at will, the long-term cost to the United States in both dollars and security risks would be astronomically higher than the minuscule fraction of our GDP that we have invested in Ukraine’s defense thus far,” McConnell said in the statement.

Curious: Does being on the same side as McConnell, GWBush, and Kissinger give you pause?

Yeah, good luck with that. Russia can't even bring Ukraine to heel. The last thing they're capable of is opening up and prosecuting an entirely new front. And especially Poland, a NATO ally.

Despite our differences, those names harken back to a time when we knew, we accepted, that we had much more in common than what divided us. There was a bottom, and everyone knew it, to their core.

If we aren't already training Ukrainians to fly F-16s, I'm going to be very disappointed.

This, "no", "no", "no", "yes" approach to arming Ukraine while prudent, needs to change.

So one of Qusdahl’s big rants is, “liberalism is actually a right-wing ideology.”

If the mainstream/popular views expressed in this thread are any indication, the rant seems legit.

To bolster the assertion, here’s another gem!

Remember to support your friendly neighborhood mom-and-pop war profiteers.

War in 2023.

Vietnam is known as "the first televised war", and it's thought that because it was so in our face's all the time compared to previous wars, eventually the voices of reason, i.e., peace, prevailed.

That ain't nothing compared to this:

Feb 27, 2023 BURNING Russian soldiers flee destroyed tank hit by Ukrainian drone bomb in brutal battlefield footage.

This footage was released by the Ukrainian armed forces and shows a tank being targeted by an aerial attack.

This footage has not yet been verified and the location is currently unconfirmed.

The Sun newspaper brings you the latest breaking news videos and explainers from the UK and around the world...
