The overseas route is available, as is G league. There are routes available if the players feel slighted. Sure, they come with less visibility, marketing, and usual end the career but...its there. It worked for Lamelo.
Of course there are. But, as a KU fan, why would I not rather have RJ Hampton dunk with a KU uniform on in the Final Four?
As a CBB fan, why would I not want to see that? If I wanted to watch layups, there are dozens of NAIA schools in the area that I could go watch, but that shit's weak.

That comes back to the issue of “we can afford to loose our top talent” being a likely kiss of death for an entertainment business

Who else would have been up for a junior year of Devon Dotson? Might have helped our PG woes.

I dont give one thought to RJ Hampton. We have pages of discussion about Marcus Garrett though. How's RJ Hamptons pro career going? 51 games, 2 teams in 2 years. Wonder if he could've benefitted from a year of exposure in the states. Maybe, maybe not.

That's not what i am saying....but without the players there is nothing.
Without a fanbase there is nothing.
The players will always be there. The fanbases may dwindle.
True and maybe some older people will stop watching...but i don't think younger generations and current or future students will stop watching because Joel Embiid gets money for doing a weekly podcast. In fact, that may actually grow the fan base.
I mean Logan Paul just made millions letting Floyd Mayweather punch him in the face for 30min and it wasn't because of all the old heads buying the PPV.
I dont know who Logan Paul is and I wouldnt pay to watch him do anything. That says more about the people buying that garbage than it does about the quality of the product.

Dotson shouldve stayed for the sake of Dotson...not for us. It wouldve helped his career way more than it would've helped me.

I think you are entirely missing the point. Were it not for archaic rules and this feel-goodiness that was successfully sold, we would have pages of discussions here about RJ Hampton. I would take that.
And, as posted, I would have taken another season of Devon Dotson. Or Wayne Selden. Or Cliff Alexander. Or . . .

There's no way to know if it would have helped his career, but what is absolutely guaranteed is that another season of Dotson means we get another season of Dotson.
Let's incentivize that option, for all of player, program, and fan.

Yeah, as has been said, this might be an even bigger bummer effect than the sure thing OAD types, is the borderline pro talent who wants to capitalize while they’re still physically able, rather than loose another season during their playing window to amateur ball.
This likely applies big time to Ochai as well.

That option already is incentivized (i dont think thats a word) thats my point.

Yes, but it is roughly the same as it has always been for the past 50+ years.
And it pales in comparison to what they are being offered.
If we are to go back to the flawed employee argument, if someone gets a job offer with astronomically more money, union representation, freedom of marketing contracting outside the profession, and the opportunity to work with the best in the business, how incentivized is it really if their current employer sits there and says, nope, you get no more, this is how we have done it since 1904, and we're not changing now.

Then that employee can go to the next level of their business. Happens all the time. Only Ousdahl thinks fryboys should be paid the same as the CEO.
If youre going to pay them then do it. It just won't be college sports anymore, it will be the G league. I dont know anyone that watches the G league.

Average G league salary is 35k. Id argue that the value of what the current atheletes get is more than that at Kansas.

Out of state tuition at Kansas is just over 28k by itself.

That's again missing my point. No one has ever argued that college athletes receive nothing. No one has ever argued they don't have other options.
My current argument is that I want the best players possible for the program and product.
As for your last point, NCAA is still dragging its feet on the most miniscule of steps. What is the good argument that NIL makes college sports no longer "college sports anymore." Hell, the restriction actually makes them
less like college students. It creates rules for athletes that no other student is bound by. And NCAA wonders why they got their ass handed to them yesterday.

Is that what the NCAA wants to do though - dare the G league to get more popular? Pave the way for them to earn bigger media deals by conceding the top talent to them?

The Brotherhood podcast--where the 5 starters for Duke each get 30k a month for sitting with a couple alumni for an hour or two, shooting the shit.
In a perfect world that wouldn't be how it works. I think the school should be seperate from all of this. The school should not help facilitate any of these activities or be involved in players profiting from their NIL.
Contrary to what the ncaa believes, a booster or an alumni is not a representative of the school.

Didn’t they pull that shut on us?
“Hypothetically, if we called this shady shoe guy who admitted in court to defrauding you a booster, just for the sake of expending this whole process, would you be willing to call him a booster?”
Hypothetically, for the sake of expediting the process, maybe we would?
“GOTCHA!”
