I think the one outlier about Pat from the top guys, especially all time, is that he was just good, not great in college. I don’t know if there is anything to make of that, but it’s interesting.

There's a multi-sport aspect to that (to which parents with kids in youth sports should pay close attention).

Pat was in 'Paul Pierce at the end of his Celtics career' shape. Not out of shape but probably could have been in better.

Some of why Pat was Pat in college was because he didn't have a great structure around him and didn't play with a ton of discipline. His arm talent let him get away with certain things. The best thing that could have ever happened to his career was to be placed with Reid, sit and learn from Smith for a year and then have Hill, Watkins, Hunt (for awhile) and Kelce around him.

Pat is the outlier that the dude is just good at everything. Basketball, football, baseball and then driving moon shots at TopGolf. It is a great teaching moment for parents to not have kids focused on one sport because you can see the baseball influence in his throwing mechanics.

Guys like Brady, Elway, and Marino were also good at everything in their day.

Some scratch golfers and former Kansas City Royals in that list.

Yep. Lots of the top guys are insane athletes in multiple sports.

But as Holiday and Fish basically said, specializing sucks. Don't do it.

If I were to have a kid, I'd just ask him to be tall and left-handed.

One of mine has the left-handed idea. But he's not the greatest athlete. But loves to play any sport but golf and soccer are becoming the 2 sports he wants to play the most. I'm about 6ft and my wife is about 5'3 so he won't have the height either. Lol

In the "your kid can buy you a house with it" sense, yes of course.

But really this conversation is more realistic at a much lower level: college scholarships. There are charts out there that show the percentage of high school athletes (broken out by NCAA division, sport and gender) that end up playing that sport in college.

In some cases the numbers are as you'd expect; a super super low percentage of boys' high school basketball players play D-I college basketball.

But when you get into the smaller sports, the numbers are nuts; I can't recall if it's 10% or 20%, but some very high (relatively speaking) percentage of girls' high school lacrosse players play D-I college lacrosse!

So the left-handed comment is the easiest one - if you're left-handed and can throw 85 mph, you're getting at least a decent scholarship. But there's a lot more going on, besides that.

Yeah it truly is crazy the percentage of athletes that go to high level of college sports. So incredibly low.

But back to the NFL season..

Suggs getting to KC is huge the end the season and into the playoffs. I saw they have the 5th best odds to win Super Bowl. NE is ahead of them, but that seems to be in name only.

Sunday was the most complete win for this team. Offense did very well (Have to convert better in red zone) and defense has been stellar the last 4 games. 2 of those games they held teams under 10 points, and haven't allowed more than 17 in the other 2. That'll win you some ball games.

I fell for the Kool-Aid that Front Butt was pouring hook, line and sinker. He came out to a Denver road show and I have a picture with him that my wife never lets me forget about.

I believe it is unrealistic for the Chiefs to get back up to the 70'ish % they were converting at in the red zone last year but if they can even get to 60% for the remainder of the season they stand a very good chance to be playing meaningful football in February.

While the defense has DRAMATICALLY improved the run defense could still be the fatal flaw. Now if the Chiefs start turning FGs into TDs that could dramatically help the defensive run game. Get out to large leads and make teams throw which plays into the Chiefs defense strength which is the secondary.

I really believe this offense has been a sleeping giant. Injuries really threw them off center but now they are getting healthy, they finally have a defense that isn't a wet blanket anymore and they know they are heading towards the home stretch.

Chicago weather looking to be pretty mild for Mahomes and company this Sunday.

I'm still not convinced the juice is worth the squeeze on Peters. Right now he is still in the honeymoon phase with the Ravens.
Good corners are hard to come by in the NFL. There is a reason why both the Chiefs and then the Rams traded him.
Essentially the Chiefs traded Peters for the draft pick to get Thornhill. I'll take Thornhill all day.

And there's a reason Rams traded him away as well.

Chiefs secondary has been very good this year. Thornhill has been an absolute stud in the back still just 14 games in.

One of the puzzling things to me about the Chief’s season so far was the run-stopping defensive fronts we have seen since the Detroit game. I think it is really an artifact of the mega blitzing of Mahomes. It is one reason I not that concerned by the lack of productivity from the run game. Reid has been reserving some of the motion for the meaningful games and I think the counter plays and reverses will give Thompson and McCoy space. Thompson is a real threat if you don’t have the box stacked the right way.
