I am torn between which is the most scenic state.
Kind of a toss up between Oregon and Utah for me. Slight edge to Oregon because…..water
Montana has to be in the running.
The problem with Wyoming and Montana, for me, is that half those states are BORING!

I thought I-70 was boring until I drove I-80 thru southern Wyoming once on the way back to KC from SLC.

I've driven I-80 many times.
Honestly, yes it's boring...but I enjoy the landscape. The high plains or, high steppe is maybe more accurate, can be beautiful in their own way.
I got stuck in Cheyenne for 6 hours during an early season blizzard a few years ago. When the road opened back upI counted 41 semis tipped over between Cheyenne and Laramie

The winter here in KC has been quite mild.
Taking a turn in the actual direction of winter on Sunday...on which day the whole School o/ Fish will be boarding a cruise ship directed toward points south and east.
Sometimes, these things work out. Cannot stand taking (and spending money) a "winter" trip only to see pictures of my KC friends doing "fall" and "spring" type outdoor things.

I started to add but then didn’t to my original post that driving 95 mph at times in the wee hours of the night didn’t suck in the 21 hour drive straight through to KC from SLC.

Cruise control set to 100 mph through west Texas, New Mexico and most of Utah / Idaho.

Especially if you were driving 95 at times?!

I've thought about this at length.
Objectively, and thought I'm sorta reluctant to say so, I think the answer has to be California.
There's just such a volume and variety of scenery: deserts, mountains, volcanoes, rain forests, beaches, dunes, grasslands...no other state can compete.

IK,R?
The speed limit was 55, and I only drove 95 for short segments in Wyoming and then south into Colorado to get to I-70 in the middle of the night. I lost an hour, and stopped to eat twice. There might have been other factors, but they’re lost to me now since it was close to 45 years ago.

damn, now the drive took you 45 years?!
I kid. but yea, a speed limit of 55 would do it.

Have a good trip, perfect timing. I've seen some forecasters think KC is going to get 20+ inches of snow and others have been more in line with 6-8 inches. The ice Saturday could be a biggie. Power lines and trees bent over from potential .25-1.00 inches of ice. And then I get to enjoy all the broken branches that fall from the 80+ year old Oak trees throughout my neighborhood in Brookside. Great, got room for another?
