Kind of cool. Or maybe not. I'll let you decide for yourself.

What’s up with the meniscus though?

I dunno. I had a slight tear 10 years ago or so from hoops. It swells up a couple times a year, Then a couple weeks ago it was popping/crackling again and usually i can rock it and free it up but this time i jerked the knee a little too hard i think. I cant bend it barely and its swollen like a grapefruit. Bad news for days spent forming footings and kneeling/bent over forming panels....or walking carrying lumber across concrete blankets. No fuckin Bueno. Worse news is that i switched companies and my insurance doesnt start until the month after hit 250 hrs. Only 190hrs and a month left to go. Im old and i dont like it.

I don't have a physical job anymore. More power to you. At 59, my knees are shot.

Maybe time to find a new career.

Sorry to hear/read about your suffering. Sucks when it affects your livelihood.
So......Did/do you feel old? Or oldER?
I ask because I'm still trying to figure out what feeling old really means. Sure I am in worse shape than I was when I was 13 but often I feel I'm still a 13 year old kid - trapped inside a 54 year old abused/neglected/beat up body.

one of my brothers is in his mid 40s and has issues with both knees...will likely have to have surgery on both

i don’t think it’s meniscus issues, but might be

he and my pops have both had success and gotten relief with topical cbd ointment, in addition to your basic rest, ice, compression and elevation

Dang, hang in there. My knee is screwed up too, but not as bad as yours. I can usually get it to feel better with some stretching/yoga. The health insurance crap sounds like a PITA too.

I feel your pain. My knees started failing me at about 54 y.o. I couldn't drop to my knees to lay out for plates and I couldn't squat. I started thinking of all the damage that carrying lumber and 30# nail bags for 32 years could have done. I am now an old man on the construction site, I do all the layout and cut rafters and staircases but I leave the material lading and assemblage to my younger helpers. I think my problems are either with my articular cartilage or arthritis.

Speaking of staircases, does redoing a staircase and cutting a new door frame for 6k sound outrageously expensive, because that’s what we were quoted.

Sounds about right: If the workers do not interfere in any way with your schedule; the work should be of high quality; that number should cover everything from start to finish.

Oh man, TDub, ouch! I had meniscus surgery a couple of years ago but mine was not nearly as bad as yours. No swelling but very painful to walk, especially down hills or stairs. Was like night and day after surgery!

Hopefully you get to have it fixed soon. You’d think that we would have a better system of dispensing healthcare. If only someone had thought of some kind of a solution where it’s not tied to the vagaries of employment 😜

Any recommendation for personal finance software? Need something that keeps track of the bank accts, budgets, spending categories, and maybe 401k stuff.

Who uses what?

I use Quicken for my business and personal finances. It works great and I have no problem sharing my year end data with my CPA. The hardest part of any financial software is setting it up, and Quicken is user friendly.

Edit: I might add that I don't use the online components that Quicken provides . . . privacy or not, my business is none of their business.

Another plug for Quicken. Been using it for the better part 25 years. I’m a little ambivalent about the recent subscription model but I use the online functions (importing transactions from various banks and brokerages) and I love it

I don’t have a business, so it’s all personal finance
