I like KJ...but I've never seen an athletic dude like him, who's main attribute is being supremely athletic and high energy....be so absolutely inept and pathetic at rebounding. I can overlook his offensive limitations if he would go rebound the damn ball. He should be getting everything in the air. He has no drive to rebound....and
that frustrates me to no end.
It really is the strangest thing. A forward who can't shoot or rebound, and is a bit undersized to play the 4. Why is he out there?
We have other guys who are undersized and can't rebound that could play the 4, but give us some threat to shoot

Whether we bench KJ or not, I think we are in trouble.
Probably a 10 loss team.
If we bench KJ, we could save the season. Our defense will get a little worse, but pray our offense improves enough to make it a net gain
It could create enough spacing to justify the hunter dickinson era if we can get all the perimeter guys hitting shots and leave KJ on the bench out of the way

I don't see how Bidunga increases spacing rather than decreasing since he's inferior to KJ at ballhandling and passing, but it could do other things.
Maybe HD moves off the block and plays more on the perimeter in an old school high-low look with Bidunga posting.

Bidunga wouldn't. But as you saw in the wvu game, he can impose his will athleticallt in ways KJ cannot. His length and athleticism would be a threat at the rim

That's what I was thinking. You basically play Hunter as the 4 on offense, which sucks because it negates his biggest strength (inside scoring)... but might be worth it.

Yes. Could be a net gain. Especially if HD starts hitting 1 or 2 3s a game. His 3pt shot looks good.
Also could confuse defenses, or at minimum makes them make a choice: put a smaller guy on HD on the perimeter (which makes it easier for him to shoot AND easier to throw in inside via the high-low) OR put the smaller guy on Bidunga which makes it easier for him to score.
I think it could work.
I know how we are using KJ isn't working.

Correct. It isn't working. When something's not working you have to do something else. Bill is smart but he's also loyal to a fault. It'll be interesting to see what he does.

Bill is loyal to a fault but he isn't stupid. He knows the problems there. He went with bidunga over KJ last game. He's made comments about how teams are guarding us, how we will see it again. He's made comments about not figuring out how to use hunter and KJ together.
I think self gets in his bag and starts tweaking things. But don't expect KJ to go from 30 minutes to 10

I would be interested to see a shot chart of HD's 3 point makes and attempts. It seems like he hits them at a higher rate from straight on but misses a huge majority of the ones he takes from the wings. I cringe every time I see him take one of those.

Yes that'd be interesting to see. It does seem like most of his makes are from straight on (and most of his attempts in general).

Flory, in my mind, and JFish might come full speed crashing into the thread saying “but think about why” when it really doesn’t matter, isn’t a guy that is after huge money and seems like a dude who is ready to learn and improve himself here.
Therefore I like Flory as much as I can like a high profile recruit ( recruit including transfers ) today.

Flory also might have some NIL hoops to jump through due to being foreign. Not totally sure.

KJ is inadequate at most things we need from the 4 spot. Zero shooting AND zero rebounding is a terrible combination. Have we ever had a worse rebounding "big"?
Defensively he seems a little overrated at this point. His perimeter defense is elite, no question. But he isn't even a perimeter player. He's an undersized 4 who bigger players can routinely outrebound or score over. Defensive rebounding is a pretty vital part of finishing a defensive possession
There's also a whole highlight reel's worth of plays from WVU where Dickinson is trying to guard someone at the 3-point line while KJ is completely alone in the paint. Every time, Dickinson gets torched and KJ is either 1-on-2 and has no chance, or has a bigger guy coming at him that he can't stop anyway.

Yes dickinson is really bad defensively. That's been well documented. I've ranted and raved about it since last year. Teams exploit us by putting him in ball screens and forcing him to be mobile. He is our weak link on defense because of lack of mobility. On the flip side KJ is our weak link on offense because of lack of shooting
