a. If you are 10+ years older than they are and they are related to you OR
b. If you are 10+ years older than they are and they are 21 or younger.
c. If you are 20+ years older than they are.

It offends me. Or more precisely pisses me off.

But I'm kinda glad it exists, it's a signal. When I hear someone say it, I'm like, oh, that person is an asshole that I'd never want to hang out with. So, I guess that's a good thing.

Bud is insulting in a passive aggressive way.
If you call me bub, i'm guessing you are 50+ years old or Wolverine.

I'm over 50 and have never called anyone "Bub".

I say bud sometimes. I dont mind it at all. If you call me "guy" or "pal" or "friend" im swinging on you though.

Need to preface this by saying there is a difference when it comes to who is addressing you.
If it's someone I know, I really don't care what they call me. If it's someone I don't know, it makes a difference.
I am 52 years old. In the past 100 days I have been called different things by people I didn't know before they called me something other than my name. Off the top of my head the list includes Buddy (different than Bud of course), Dude, Man, Sir, Mister, Young Man, Guy, derivatives of my first name that I NEVER use for myself, and misc. other names that are not my name because people thought it was my name.
