Not my neighbor but local. Couple of high teenagers were playing with a gun that was laying around the house. Now one of them is dead.

But glad to hear that the Dems haven't stormed your house to take all your guns. Yet.

The gun did that all by itself?

Tragic example of user error. Instead of being scared of them and teaching fear perhaps if we taught responsible use and healthy respect....

I just made a post that literally said "often by making it seem worse than it truly was"....and then your response is like "HEY!!! He was saying things are much worse than they truly are!!!".....and I'm like uh yeah I just said that. 😂😂😂
Calling them rapists and murderers isnt just "saying border crossings are much worse than they are". It is promoting a fear of something else entirely based off of nothing other than a handful of cases and an underlying level of passive racism.
Well...that plus the memory of the marielitos.
Yeah, I am sure that the Trump Administration had that in mind.....

You arent serious, are you? I dont think anyone is going to watch that and think "oh my gosh, we'd better vote for this or they will actually come throw my grandma off a cliff".

They arent pushing "they're coming for your guns" or "they're sending rapists and murderers" as some sort of symbolism. They are telling people that if you put a Dem in office then you will have your guns taken from you and you will be overrun with rapists and murderers from central america.

Tragic example of irresponsible gun ownership. It would have been nice if the owner of that gun was required to be taught responsible use and healthy respect prior to being allowed to purchase this gun. But sure, go ahead and count on that irresponsible gun owner to teach these kids responsible gun usage and healthy respect....that worked out well.

And while I have never taken a gun safety class before, I am confident that having an unlocked gun with ammunition readily available around teens doing drugs fails to meet the criteria of responsible gun ownership.

So, the irresponsible and dangerous behavior of a few should determine the rights of millions? Got it.

Wait. Are we talking about guns or immigration?

Not sure who is teaching this "Fear of Guns" you refer to.

What change to the rights of millions did I propose? Or do you just autopilot right to that one?

Is "the right to purchase a gun without proving that you have taken some sort of gun safety class" covered under the Constitution or was that in the Bill of Rights? Sorry to hear that your right to not have to hassle with a 2 hour safety class is more important than some teenagers life.

Wanting to avoid the possible negative consequences of having a gun in your household is different than a "fear of guns".

OMG.

Then don't own a gun!

Twice you've spiraled into spazz zone about immigration and guns....and then repeated your stances on those topics...which is fine, good talk and all that, but we're simply talking about fear being used by both sides to MOTIVATE voters. Which it is...and you're literally demonstrating why.

Right its not a gun debate, its a fear debate.

A debate which twocoach has somehow managed to present the case AND the rebuttal in the same series of posts.

A large percentage of laws on the books are attempts to balance the right of individuals with the safety of greater society. If it makes you feel better to call the awareness that guns can in fact kill people as "fear" then fine, you win that pointless debate.

We enact laws all the time that restrict citizens "right" to do whatever the fuck they want for the greater good.

TDub has stated that we should teach more about responsible gun ownership and respect of what guns do than "fear of guns". OK. So, lets roll with that. Require that potential gun owners show proof that they have taken a responsible gun ownership safety course prior to being allowed to purchase a gun. Require that continued education be required by requiring a certain amount of training/safety courses be needed to continue ownership of said guns. Shit, think of all the good american jobs created by that requirement.

We've let people buy guns without such requirements for centuries now and the empirical evidence overwhelmingly shows that an unacceptable number of gun owners fail to get the necessary training/knowledge that is needed to be responsible gun owners. I dont see how anyone looks at the data and thinks the current model of doing this is working as well as it possibly could.

Then we're back to my discussion of the difference between fear of things that are actually happening vs. fear of scary butwhatabouts that arent actually happening.

People are actually using guns to commit mass murders. Some dude opened fire on a freaking outdoor concert with a cache of weaponry that is more than a soldier walking through Afghanistan is carrying right now. Teens are actually getting killed in their own homes goofing around with guns they find laying around. This isn't a pushing of some "brown people are scary" boogie man fear tactic. This is attempts to address an issue that actually exists.
