"An estimated 40% of Americans believe God created humans as described in the Bible, according to a 2019 poll."
That is so scary to me. I'm sorry but come on. We're seriously still at 40% believing in strict creationism?!? I am just going to go put my head down on my desk for a while, ugh.
I'd be interested in seeing how that question was worded. It's possible some % answered in the affirmative just because they think God was involved in creating man, not necessarily that it happened in 7 days or that evolution isn't real...or, again depending on how it was worded, there may be a certain % just not wanting to answer in a way that seems to say the bible is full of shit, and not necessarily that the earth is only thousands of years old.
But regardless, whatever the % that believe in strict creationism is just too fucking high.

I clicked on the link and got the following:
"Which of the following statements comes closest to your views on the origin and development of human beings?
1) Human beings have developed over millions of years from less advanced forms of life, but God guided this process (got 33% of the vote)
2) Human beings have developed over millions of years from less advanced forms of life, but God had no part in this process (got 22% of the vote)
3) God created human beings pretty much in their present form at one time within the last 10,000 years or so (got 40% of the vote)
Yeah, that's scary as shit.

But honestly, if tomorrow you woke up and there was some group telling us that the sun was cold instead of warm, would you even be surprised, at this point?
I could totally see the fight with Lobster right now.
Me: You don't actually believe that do you?
Lobster: I'm not convinced that the sun is cold, but I do think it's weird that there are so many cold winter days where the sun is shining and hot summer days where it's cloudy. I'd like someone to explain to me how that's possible, and be intellectually honest about it.
Me: Actually meteorologists have explained that simple phenomena for hundreds of years, or longer.
Lobster: You don't actually trust meteorologists when it comes to weather do you? Those guys are just shills for big sun block. I think we'd all agree if we're honest that at the very least the sun isn't hot.
Me: {reaching for the liquor cabinet}

Lobster: if the sun is real then how come we can’t send astronauts there like the moon?
PhD: the surface of the sun is much too hot for astronauts to land on
Lobster: yeah but what if we go in the winter when it’s colder

Lobster thinks the back side of the sun is where you'd land. You know that part that holds the fire.
He also thinks the back of Mt. Rushmore looks like this:

Honestly, I can get down with the whole generally being suspicious of big business and stuff. There’s a surprising amount of overlap on that venn diagram.
But where it’s funny, is the lobster types who rally against big business trying to administer vaccines, while continuing to smash down fast food cheeseburgers for every meal.

I can too. But it usually has to do with their business practices...not the science.
For example I think the way they charge for insulin is immoral and borderline criminal.
On the other hand, I never worry that a medicine is actually a rouse to inject me with a microchip.

i can agree with that as well
there is something to be skeptical about though, as we’ve alluded to. there is much more profit to be made in treated the symptoms, rather than eradicating the cause.

Yeah.
The lobsters aren’t really critically evaluating the reasons for suspicion, so much as they are just selectively interpreting things to fit their conspiracy narrative.

Agreed. Not to mention that the mere notion that our government could pay for and build the infrastructure necessary to implement a global tracking system to track all these alleged covid vaccine microchips is laughable. Especially when we are already all walking around with cell phones with GPS trackers in place and a fully developed technological system to track them. Why spend bajillions to secretly develop something that already exists?

I think that applies to a lot of other situations than here.
I mean, they're only going to do what is profitable for them. There was A LOT of $ on the table here, AND a huge opportunity at positive PR. How many times have the terms Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson been in the news? They had all the motivation to get this right, it's a quick money grab, free advertizing, and gives them a good opportunity to have a low risk roll-out for vaccine methods like mRNA.
I think this is entirely in a different category than other vaccine situations or something like finding alternative antibiotics. It's just an entirely different situation.

Another funny thing about the conspiracy theorists is that they simultaneously bemoan the dim-whittedness and ineptitude of gov't while simultaneously giving them the credit to come up with these massively expensive high-tech schemes that require massive numbers of people keeping a tight lip about it.

Yep. It would take thousands of people working on hundreds of projects over years of time to pull off a technology project of that size.
